Welfare Check phrase about NO people is racism rearing its ugly head!
People who say things like "they were just upset because they wouldn't get their welfare check this week" are curious...

Why would they look at the TV and think these people collect welfare checks? Is it because they are people? No, people don't all collect welfare checks.

The only reason they think of this is because they are HEARTLESS and saw black people in need and immediately thought of welfare checks. This is racism where it has been hidden.

As someone (not sure who) has said:
By not speaking up to racist statements, we are giving silent approval of racism.

So make sure when people mention welfare checks you point out their heartlessness and obvious racism. Ask them, "why do you think they are the type of people who collect welfare checks?"

Have courage!

On a side note, it amazes me that the RICH have managed to make us hate POOR people when we are the POOR people.

"Don't blame your poorness on the RICH, its the POOR people's fault your poor..."

1. Funny thing is, if you dig a bit with many of these people
you will find out that at least once in their life they needed assistance..be it federal or state

2. So we should broad-brush categorize (stigmatize) these US citizens
because they are poor? How is that helpful? Why are you propping up that bigoted form of thinking? Just Curious...

3. I think they were saying that the people who are complaining about welfare
checks have also had some help from the government at some point in their lives.

Showing that they are hypocrites.

15. I agree - the abuse of it is giving it a bad name - IMHO!
I am not against religion, but I've been treated poorly because of my non-participaltion in the preferred religion in my neighborhood growing up - and this mistreatment has now migrated to the national stage, at least in my mind. When you have continued bad experiences with something, it tends to create a negative feeling inside when that negative "thing" continues to be predominately negative at every exposure - at least for me...

18. totally understandable...
I have struggled with trying to define my belief system by other people's standard...

Some of them would criticize me for belonging to a particular sect of christianity that isn't theirs while others for not belonging to any sect at all.

22. This concept of "right" and "wrong" is so, ... so, UNCHRISTIAN!!
At least Jesus was a good man and a great teacher. Can't say the same for many millions of his followers - at least IMHO...

being that I am black. Probably too chickenshit to talk that way to me.

12. Well, you could point out that the majority of welfare recipients
are WHITE and don't stay on welfare for very long. Here's a link.

13. I heard this yesterday
Edited on Thu Sep-08-05 12:01 AM by Zodiak Ironfist
From a secretary that works with me. She is a very nice woman, and so I was completely taken aback by her words. She basically said "Well, how can they know how to get out of New Orleans if all they have been doing is collecting welfare checks?"

I got pissed, but held the venom back, explaining that the welfare system as a life-long enterprise ended in the 90's, so her point was irrelevent. I also said it was a class issue more than a black issue specifically, but race is an issue when it comes to being poor. I also stressed how when you take the safety net out from under people without addressing the reason they were poor in the first place, then you achieve a concomitent increase in the intensity of poverty and misery. She reluctantly agreed, but I feel she was just humoring me. I am famous for lecturing people espousing RW talking points with the faraway look of "I'm not thinking" in their eyes.

I may get my message deleted for this, but I really think it must be said. The REAL response I should have said was "why don't you just call them n*****s and get it over with!" I can't stand the fact that everything is hidden beneath coded language, nowadays.

It is always another white person saddling up to me with a wink and a nod telling me this crap. It is sickening, wrong, and makes me want to puke that it;s all on the "down-low". My southern accent gets me a lot of comments like this from closet racists.

Make no mistake; racism is alive and well in the U.S. and people are in a lot of denial about it as long as it is not exposed for all to see.

19. I know, being white, the same thing happens to me
They walk up to you and they say things like "black people are _____ because of _____" or some other racist statement.

Then they go, "not that I am racist or anything..."

Then they look at you and half nod and say, "but you know what I am saying and you know it is true... but I am not racist..."

20. Poor? Welfare?
In the richest country on the planet?

Uh uh. Oh no no no no.

It is my deepest wish for every American to get out there and milk this phucking government for every dime they deserve.

Yep. They/we/us deserve to use every government safety net to the max until WE BREAK THE BANK.

I say this because the "haves & have mores" have dismantled public education... and our children will never be able to compete globally if this isn't turned around.

I say this because the "haves & have mores" have stolen public funds from Social Security... and our parents will live their final years in misery and poverty.

I say this because the "haves & have mores" have taxed us to death, NOT for the well being of all Americans, but for nation building across the globe... and we are hated for our meddling and rightly so.

I say this because the "haves & have mores" have taxed us to death, NOT for the well being of all Americans, but to transfer our money to corporate fascist pigs... and we pay and pay and pay and pay. Taxes used for the common good of all Americans would have been acceptable. Now we pay through the nose for Biff & Buffy's villa on the French Riviera with 2 humvees in the garage and our own kids can't catch a break.

They have brainwashed America to believe that this country owes NOTHING to it's people... not even the truth. Well PHUCK THAT. There is no shame in collecting welfare. As the matter of fact... I'd just as soon eat the rich right now.

In no other country, save the poorest of 3rd world countries, have so few stolen SO MUCH from SO MANY and then turned around and demonized the poor for trying to survive.

I refuse to attach a stigma to those collecting welfare. I blame government corruption and thievery for dismantling the American Dream. They did that through class warfare and we didn't even know we were at war until we lost. COLLECT WHAT'S YOURS.
