As bodies rot in America, I understand they do it in dignity...
Edited on Thu Sep-08-05 08:13 PM by Tom Yossarian Joad
Because that's what FEMA has said they want for the bodies.

I hear what the foreign press reports, I see the videos of the American press and I cry.

Even when you think that it can't get much worse, it does. Even when you think the quest for profit might be shoved aside, Bush contributor Carnivale gets the contract of the year and Halliburton gets another large handful of money.

I see the bodies float by, I hear the anguish of Aaron Broussard as he describes the pleadings of the helpless, I see the pets with lost owners doomed for a gas chamber...

America has become a lie. I hold Bush and the cabal that control him responsible. The deaths here and in Iraq, the wedding parties bombed in Afghanistan, the tortured, the jailed, the dispossessed all cry for recognition and help.

We used to be the ones to help those people. We have become the ones that cause these great pains and injustices.

Where did America go?

2. It went into the dark recesses of a Diebold voting machine....
and an apathetic and indifferent public may have paid the price of ignoring their own political future.

I never thought we'd see it wholesale.

6. They also fear human remains getting into the water pumps
draining "Lake George". From Americablog:

In a gruesome detail that reminds us of the terrible human tragedy we're dealing with, USA Today reports -- in an item on page A5 which I can't find online -- that water pumps are being slowed because the pumping stations themselves have to be pumped out. Furthermore:

USA Today: Officials are also being slowed in some locations because of fear that human remains could be mixed in with the debris, clogging pumps.

10. I had heard something about that a day or two ago...
That is only one of so many really morbid tales coming out of NO today.

8. In Maureen Dowd's column a few days ago she said,"if we cannot
take care of our own, then who are we?

Apparently,in Washington DC on 9-11, some people are going to build a "Bushville city."
The people are ready to harvest their grapes of wrath and hold the boy king responsible at last.

9. Heard a fella on NPR this am while driving
my son to school.
It was a very 'surreal' moment- He was talking about tying the dead bodies to things, or 'kicking them into a building' and closing the door.- He then said 'it may seem insensitive, but we're not equiped to deal with cadavers'.
The next man to speak was a black man, who lived in NO, and who was like the ONLY black man in the rescue effort. He said it troubled him that the dead were not being treated with respect.- that these were people he KNEW- that what the rescue effort needed was more people like him who knew the streets, which houses were abandoned ones, even how to pronounce the names...... and it hit me right in the gut.
My son is black- in a very white world..... and when this program began, i thought geez- then i thought, well they are just the 'shells' of people- i've handled too many dead loved ones in the last 10 yrs- it changed me..... - then i thought if that were my childrens bodies being kicked about like that, it would only add insult to the most grievous injury... not being able to see their body- their shell out of this world, but tossed aside like a used diaper..... and it outraged me-
And depressed the HELL out of me.... i don't know Tom- maybe america was just a dream- some fantasy invented to keep people alive... to fuel the machines of war and greed....

i don't know anything anymore-
probably never did.

except i don't think i can 'believe' any more.

and what am i leaving my children with???

14. 'We used to be the ones to help those people'
at least until the freepers took over our government.

We need to throw the bums out and tomorrow isn't soon enough any more.

In the process, I think we are going to find America again. I already see it happening.

15. Only as long as there are no cameras to see them, ...
... no kind souls to identify them and no friends or relatives to
mourn them.

If any of the above dare to turn up, oh, the sudden indignity of it all.
