Homeowners in Ocala, FL say evacuees aren't welcome
(snip)

As some organizations seek to coordinate temporary homes for people devastated by Hurricane Katrina, the Majestic Oaks Homeowners Association is reminding its residents the evacuees aren't welcome in that community.

The association delivered notices to its 500-plus homes Saturday advising homeowners "that our covenants and by-laws prohibit additional families in family homes."

Audrey Andrews, vice president of the board, said Monday they encourage residents to make donations or charitable contributions to aid victims of Hurricane Katrina. But, she added, the board thought it needed to ward off any sudden influx of evacuees.

"These are single-family residences, and that's what they were intended for," Andrews said Monday.

9. And where are the wealthy Democrats that are opening their door?
Not many in Massachusetts and my Democratic Senators have quite a few homes between them. I think Kerry has five.

The rich are the rich, whether they are Dems or Republicans.

10. So true.
I thank you for reminding me. As I said, when supplies were not forthcoming to the folks in the superdome...don't Kerry and his wife have an extra mill laying around?

19. And what are you basing your Dem-bashing on?
There are 1262 Offers for housing from Boston listed at the Move-On site. (That would be for significantly more people than that.

I used Kennedy and Kerry as examples because a poster said that it was rich Republicans in Florida that wouldn't let the evacuees in(how he/she knows this is beyond me).

Kennedy and Kerry happen to be my senators so I know a bit more about them.

5. Isn't Ocala one of the major real estate bubble regions?
I believe it is. When the market crashes and those gated community homeowners find themselves with a mortgage which far exceeds the value of their house, and are struggling to make the payments, possibly facing foreclosure, they can go FUCK THEMSELVES.

7. Homeowners should take in families immediately.
The Association could convene a meeting to vote to kick the "undesirables" out of the neighborhood. Do you think the Majestic Oaks homeowners association will be ok with the fact that 87 tv cameras and 54 microphones were trained on them while they voted on whether to evict a good samaritan from the neighborhood.

11. They don't like benches, either.
‘Civil disobedience’ created in Majestic Oaks neighborhood

>>Kathy Gary thinks the covenants in her subdivision that won’t allow her to put a white wrought iron bench in the landscaping in front of her house are ridiculous (it had to be put on the side where it was more obvious on her corner lot) and after getting a notice of a violation, she exercised a little bit of civil disobedience that she thought was a humorous statement on the situation.

She put the bench over by the street in full view of the road and added what she called some yard ornaments.

Some liked it, others didn’t. The ornaments included a plastic flamingo, a small American flag, a painted wooden garden cutout representing a lady bending over in the garden showing her bloomers with the added words “Kiss this” written on the thighs, and two little Dutch characters looking on.

That display earned her another citation for violation of the covenants and the censure of at least one member of the Architectural Change and Covenant Compliance Committee.

“It’s repulsive,” said Lloyd Daniel, the member of the committee who sent the notice. <<

16. HOA do go crazy down here
After the hurricanes last year, roofing shingles were hard to come by. One homeowner had a hard time finding shingles and was glad that he got ANYTHING. After spending a ton on his roof, his HOA told him he had to replace it.. because in their "rules.. all the roofs had to look alike. He bought the wrong shade of shingles.

And no, they didn't volunteer to buy him new ones or pay for the labor. His "bad", he had to fork over the money himself.

IF it's in their little rule book.. they will not care for the "why".

HOA's even have rules about what kind of storm shutters you can have installed. And if you have them, WHEN you can put them on your house and WHEN you have to take them off. example.. You can't put them on until 48 hrs before a hurricane hits and have to have them removed 72 hrs after a hurricane hits.

I asked a HOA group about this last rule. LIke, what if your trying to evacuate and want to beat the "rush". They said "to bad.. if you want to leave early, you have to pay someone to come out and cover your windows, etc.. and to remove them if your not back to do them yourself. Or don't cover them at all." I'm serious! That is EXACTLY what he said.

If you buy ANYWHERE that has a HOA... make SURE you read their rules! You might not like them. And they can force you to leave. Trust me, they make sure it's in the rules.. all legeal like.

33. I second that! The next best thing is to serve on the Board
so that you can have some say in how the rules are enforced. Here in S FL it is virtually impossible to find a newer home that isn't in a HOA. I've lived in communities where the Board is so controlling they make your life miserable. I've been on my HOA board for 5 years now, it's a major PITA, but it's better than letting the nutjobs take over and start sending letters about piddly shit violations.

23. We still have a while for hurricane season to end, I wouldn't want
to reap what I have sown. I think any Floridian, that wouldn't understand the Katrina disaster, must be taking something. PS. Greg. I wouldn't wish a hurricane on my worst, enemy. I just find it ironic that an area that goes through hurricanes esp. last year, would be so heartless. (You not included).

And Ocala is such a right wing area. They refused to show Michael
