i think bush has always been politically below the level of a sea of political opposition, a majority of people opposed to him -- his views, his plans, his actions, his tactics -- but this has all been held back by a system of media levees that kept the ebb and flow of opposition from causing bush any real damage.

people in the media, independents, and even some of the bushbots are realizing that government is not a just fun little game where republicans get to rewrite the rules of debate, of truth, of law, of ethics to suit their own purposes, and everything works out as long as all republicans stick together and play their part according to the sheet music distributed by central planning. no, this is real life, and real life has consequences.

Bush supporters are not big thinkers.

They support his war-mongering, his hard on the poor attitudes, his barely concealed racism and fundamentalism because it makes them feel good about themselves, America, Jesus and apple pie.

When his behavior embarrasses and shames them, or hurts them at the gas pump and grocery store, well all bets are off.

Nothing in this world -- nothing -- is as shallow as political support.

I don't know all their names right offhand, but they are the CEOs of Disney, TimeWarner, Viacom, Genital Electric and NewsCorp. They are the five old white men who control the mass media in this country and they have been blatantly covering for bu$hler since the summer of 2000.

All the well-groomed, mic-waving whores who work for them have been VERY carefully controlled until just lately. One by one, they are going off the reservation. The old white men scramble to bring them back, to put them back on-message--then another one escapes.

The McMansion of Media has been flooded just as surely as New Orleans. The old white men are running out of fingers and toes to plug the holes. Their next desperate move is Viagra.

However, yesterday, on CNN, I saw 'newscasters' blaming the victims. "They were warned about the hurricane & should have left."

I worry that much of our problem is our dumbed down society. They no longer know what the Commons are & why they are needed & why we should support them with our tax dollars. They have fallen for the meme 'privatization is more efficient than government' even though in most cases it isn't.

However, the dimson is determined to prove that privatization is better by gutting our government & filling the many positions that protect the Commons & the citizens with his friends & political supporters who are not qualified for these jobs. Then people will say, "see, government is inefficient & we should privatize all the commons." I'm afraid his strategy is working.

For those who need a refresher, our founding fathers defined the Commons as the necessities & commonalities of life. They include: our air, our water, septic systems, transportation routes, educational systems, radio & TV frequencies, &, in every developed nation in the world except the USA, the nation's health care system.

However, the most important of the Commons is our government itself. Their idea was to create a common institution owned by its own citizens, answerable to its own citizens, & authorized to exist & continue existing "by the consent of the governed."



I hope you are right & that America is starting to get it. I'm not sure I agree, & even if they are, I worry it may be too late.
