1. I was wondering if they were still going through with that.
Tax-funded Republican pep rally. Like every other event since 2001, I know. :eyes:

2. My letter to SUBWAY
Dear Sirs:
Over the years i have become a frequent customer to your Franchises. I enjoy your products and can always be assured of a good meal. Unfortunately you have chosen to support a cause I feel is political and unbecoming of my support. The "Freedom March" is a "Propaganda Tool" of the Bush Crime family and shows Corporate support for a War I find illegal and immoral.

I support the Troops by wanting them to return home immediately. I wish your company felt the same way.

Unless you pull your support for this propaganda ploy I will choose to frequent other eating establishments in the future.

Sincerely,
XXXXX XXXXX

6. Better way; Calling them "Bush Crime family" to Subway will not work
I commend your energy and initiative.

Writing to Subway and calling them "the Bush Crime family" will immediately get you dropped in the round kook file, regardless of how much truth you believe it has. Avoid using loaded words and phrases like "propaganda". They can be counted on to get you high fives at DU, but don't impress "average" business people.

The better way is try to appear completely level-headed and "normal" average American. Try this (edits in purple with one major deletion):

Dear Subway:
Over the years I have been a frequent customer at your Franchises. I enjoy your products and can always be assured of a good meal. Unfortunately you have chosen to sponsor a cause I feel is political and unworthy of my support. The "Freedom March" shows Corporate support for a War I find illegal and immoral.

I support the Troops by wanting them to return home immediately. I wish your company felt the same way.

Unless you pull your support for this March I will choose to spend my money at other eating establishments in the future.

Sincerely,

Kept the reference to "illegal and immoral" because they are your feelings (well considered and supportable). Changed the sexist salutation to a neutral one. Changed first "support" to "sponsor" to avoid overusing a word in close proximity. Changed "unbecoming" to "unworthy", less awkward, but the former is fine if you prefer it. Changed second "frequent" (verb) to "spend my money" because it is more direct and to the point.

Do write to your local franchisees too, so they can know they are losing money because of head office policies. They'll get an earful at the next franchisee's meeting if you do.

3. I sent a letter long ago
when this whole crude march idea was put forth. I've never heard from Subway and have left them in the dust. I've begun exploring local sub shops.

Too bad for Subway - they had a chance to do the right thing and totally blew it for themselves.

5. My letter to Subway
Edited on Fri Sep-09-05 10:03 AM by Vinnie From Indy
Dear Sirs:

I am appalled that Subway would associate itself with a clearly political and partisan piece of propaganda like the "freedom walk". The purpose of the march is clearly to link 9/11 with the war in Iraq and to shore up support for this miserable, lying Administration. I hope Subway realizes that there are millions of people like me that see this war for what it truly is - a lie and a tragedy. I will never support a company in any way helps to perpetuate a lie that has killed almost 2,000 Americans and over 100,000 Iraqis. Not only will I never go into a Subway franchise again, I will never buy Subway after footbal and baseball games for the kids, for business meetings or for parties. It is a shame because you guys make a good product, but it isn't good enough for me to sell my soul.

Suggested edits in purple for the same reasons as my earlier post in this thread:

Dear Safeway:

I am appalled that Subway would associate itself with a clearly political and partisan event like the "Freedom Walk". The purpose of the march is clearly to link 9/11 with the war in Iraq and to shore up support for this increasingly unpopular Administration. I hope Subway realizes that there are millions of people like me that see this war for what it truly is - a lie and a tragedy. I will never support a company in any way helps to perpetuate a lie that has killed almost 2,000 Americans and over 100,000 Iraqis. Note that I suggest keeping the phrase "a lie and a tragedy" while removing "miserable, lying". The former is a statement of a considered opinion. The latter is loaded phraseology, hence propaganda, which will earn you kudos at DU but will be less effective achieving your objective with Safeway.

Write your local stores too, so they know that the head office is hurting their business.

7. More like, "Freedom to Pillage & Kill" Walk.
:grr: The BushCO/neoCON regime exploited the victims of 9/11 to advance their illegal profiteering war. :grr:

9. I wonder if it's the local Subway and not the corporate one.
It looks like there are several local sponsors and most Subways are owned by franchisees.

Anyway to find out so I can still visit my local Subway?

10. Call your local Subway and ask them.
If you call and ask, it will give you a chance to talk to people about the issue. If you get a regular worker like a cashier, chat a little bit so they get the info (sponsorship) and then ask to speak to the manager or supervisor. Have a brief chat with each person and then try to raise it a level. Go as high as you can, you might be connected to the franchise owner or get a callback.
