God "finally cleaned up public housing" in NOLA, Repub Rep jokes.

http://politicalwire.com/archives/2005/09/09/quote_of_the_day.html

September 09, 2005

Quote of the Day
"We finally cleaned up public housing in New Orleans. We couldn't do it, but God did."

-- Rep. Richard Baker (R-LA), quoted by the Wall Street Journal, "overheard" in a conversation with lobbyists. "Baker explains later he didn't intend flippancy but has long wanted to improve low-income housing."

1. "My remarks were misinterpreted, and this is just finger-pointing!"
"There's just no excuse for the partisan tone on remarks taken completely out of context!"

I can hear the squealing already.

2. God will not be mocked,
and I would not like to be in this guy's shoes when he has to stand before God and give an account for his comment.

12. God is mocked every time a republican opens his mouth.
There does not seem to be many "lightening bolts" out there correcting this situation.

3. Oh sure, that's what he meant. LIAR!
They make these racial and class slurs, and when quoted and called on it, they try to make their outrageous comments sounds compassionate! Disgusting!

4. "improve" as in what level them?
So high priced condos could be built instead.

These pigs are so crazy they don't even know how to keep their damn mouths shut.

5. my grandma, in-law, told me yesterday, that this disaster is...
"part of the cleansing that nature does." Could not believe it, never knew she was a nazi. Ironically and (sadly for me & hubby) we're taking her out for her birthday to a cajan restaurant and jazz concert, go figure.

15. I'm giving grandma-in-law the benefit of the doubt.
Perhaps she meant it more in the vein of those who believe wildfires are natures way of thinning a forest. Perhaps she meant that nature was cleaning the streets with all the water and returning the millions of wetlands arces to nature. I hope that's what she meant...

18. uh, no...she meant the people. AND wholeheartedly agreed w/babs!
She is a nazi. My husband & I are distraught. This was a 1 hour conversation, not something she said in passing. She talked about survival of the fittest, called them low class, etc. fwiw, she has 2 granddaughters on welfare. we're really not looking forward to seeing her tonight.

17. Grandma-in-law Travis Bickle?
I, too, would probably give her the benefit of the doubt, but her comment surely reminds me of the title character in "Taxi Driver."

As for Congressman Dummkopf, I wonder if he included the home Trent Lott lost in his divine urban renewal plan? Of course, Trent's home (one of many he owns) has the president's personal guarantee that it will be rebuilt; the rest of the folks who've lost their one and only home? Ehhhh, not so much.

6. Oh...gosh
Okay, this is wrong, because what I want to say is someone ought to take that bastard out right now.

I probably shouldn't say that.

But he probably shouldn't refer to the deaths of thousands of innocent people as "cleaned" and "housing" either.

So, I stand by it.

7. As usual the Repugs true feeling always slip out in private talks.
The sad thing is that a big chunk of the public agrees with them. The wink-wink racism of the Repugs always there. That's why they've got and will hold the "solid" south.

remark. Yeah, we uh... uh... we ... uh... we wanted to IMPROVE low-income housing, yeah, that's the ticket.

OMG! People DIED, and he thinks that remark is not inappropriate.

20. To Quote Spider Robinson....
If you hear anybody making jokes about the refugees (...) you’ll never again mistake him or her for human.

Baker, it's obvious you've learned to wear shoes and not fingerpaint with your shit on the floor, but that's where your resemblance to a humane human stops.

21. He'll glom onto Bush's "major-league asshole" defense soon, just wait
(Notice that he's already fully embraced the Resmuglican policy of claiming that he was misinterpreted.) Soon Barker'll say, "It was wrong for people to hear that. It was wrong that a private comment went out over the public airwaves."

Here's a tip, jackass: it isn't the fault of the person who heard it that they have ears, get it?

25. Misinterpret this
all of the people who you pigs are fucking now, aren't going to take it forever. Sooner or later people get tired of being kicked, the evidense for this is written in the history books that you fine people haven't read or scrubbed yet.
Usually, these dust ups aren't pretty, and usually it's the aristocracy that you people are trying so hard to create that feels it first.

With the way you assholes are treating the military, guess whose side they're going to be on? Man it's going to be a long cold winter, next spring is looking very ominous to me.
