This one is just too funny not to share. (As opposed to the actual news, which is pitiful.)

The Bush adminsitration just announced that Michael Brown is returning to Washington from Louisiana, where he was reportedly buttonholing strangers to direct him to where that "big weather thing happened somewhere around here." Taking over Katrina relief operations will be Coast Guard Vice Admiral Thad W. Allen, who was named Brown's--wink, wink--"deputy" two days ago. We are unable to confirm initial reports of mass suicide attempts among the country's Arabian horses. -- HOLLY MARTINS
