FEMA says debit card distribution at Reliant Park complete

This morning the lines snaked around the Reliant complex as hurricane evacuees picked the FEMA debit cards, and those from the American Red Cross.

Even before the sun rose this morning, Katrina victims were lining up for the disaster aid they need most now: money to start their new lives away from home.

The distribution of Red Cross cards worth up to $1,500 was continuing this morning at Reliant Park and is expanding to include evacuees at the George R. Brown Convention Center. The Red Cross' other 26 shelters in the Houston area will be making their own arrangements for the distribution of cards on site.

This morning, U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay's visit to the Reliant Park this offered him a glimpse of what it's like to be living in shelter.

~~~~> While on the tour of a shelter with top administration officials from Washington, including U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao and U.S. Treasury Secretary John W. Snow, DeLay stopped to chat with three young boys resting on cots.

The congressman likened their stay to being at camp and asked, "Now tell me the truth boys, is this kind of fun?"

They nodded yes, but looked perplexed.

It's up to the GOP caucus to remove this aardvark from his position of power.

He has no concept of what is going on. At least he didn't slap the boys and demand they provide some service for the food they are getting. That's coming next.

This reminds me of that time. They left for lunch a half hour early so they could help the cooks and serve our food. They were also the ones left in the school rooms on field trips because they could not pay the quarter for the bus.

This is the country Bush wants to return to and the country that turned me into a democrat.

home we ever lived in, our Grandma drowned, the dog had to be left behind and died, our dad is still missing, and Momma won't stop crying. It's LOTS of fun.
