Shouldn't RWers be Screaming: THEY are confiscating guns!
Edited on Sat Sep-10-05 02:55 AM by JCMach1
Soldiers and police confiscated guns from homeowners as they went house to house, trying to clear the shattered city of holdouts...

http://www.guardian.co.uk/worldlatest/story/0,1280,-5266538,00.html

Have the Freepers responded to this yet?
Is this not UNCONSTITUTIONAL regardless of whether it is a good idea?

ON EDIT:

Also, isn't using soldiers for such duty a violation of the Posse Comitatus Act? I saw footage of 82nd airborne doing the house to house confiscation today...

Edited on Sat Sep-10-05 02:55 AM by nadinbrzezinski
and given thhey are not screaming I am willing to bet it was orderd by DHS, will now go and read

On read

On Thursday, in the city's well-to-do Lower Garden District, a neighborhood with many antebellum mansions, members of the Oklahoma National Guard seized weapons from the inhabitants of one home. Those who were armed were handcuffed and briefly detained before being let go.

Folks this was a DHS order, those NG troops are Federal Troops... anybody care to read Pose Comitatus to them?

Oh the irony, Liberals will confiscate guns... seems it was the RIGHT WING, even if there are valid reasons... ain't it fun?

6. No - they are out buying guns. Why would the NRA care and make
their robots kick up a fuss?

The people who have their guns confiscated will just have to go out and buy a new one when they get settled.

Win win for the NRA and who they represent.

Remember - "selling guns doesn't kill people - neither does taking them away. Only not selling guns kills people".

You dig?

8. A little testy at the SIG forum but NOT Hillary's fault
quote:
Those this gives us a peak of what can happen in the future with a Hillary Clinton type in the Presidents seat?

Nothing to do with Hillary. This is happening today, and not in some distant future. This is in Louisiana, and not in CA, NY, MA or HI. We've got our Republican pres., and our majority republican Congress and Senate. And what the hell? This has nothing to do with conservative/liberal discussion. This is a great example of how our government, on all levels, regards it's citizens. Lesson learned indeed.

9. The Bush Administration will try to worm out of this by...
Edited on Sat Sep-10-05 04:10 AM by newswolf56
blaming the New Orleans mayor, who is a Democrat, and the New Orleans Police Department. Unfortunately Bush will probably get away with it. The corporate media is too vehemently anti-gun to stop cheering and ask who really gave the order or why it was given: no doubt by FEMA or its parent Homeland Security, and no doubt as a dry run and/or test case in anticipation of future confiscations -- probably nationwide.

This sort of confiscation without compensation (in which legally owned property is literally being stolen by the authorities) is unquestionably illegal. What this really illustrates -- no matter where one stands on the question of firearms ownership -- is the absurdity of clinging to the notion America is "a nation of laws." This proves America is merely another one of many nations in which law means absolutely nothing if government chooses to violate it.

Edit: typo.

10. The self-proclaimed Gun Nuts are really cowards
They'd piss in their pants if they actually had to confront the Fascists running this nation.

The NeoCons have them convinced that "Librulls are out to git yer guns," and they are so stupid, THEY FUCKING BELIEVE IT, and have fought against even those things we wanted which would benefit them and their children.

Yeah, this "librull" wants your gun, but only if you don't need it. I actually have to USE my 12 gauge. Most Freepers only collect guns to make their penises feel larger. They will shut up like the wimps they are now that Dumbya - not the "librulls" - is confiscating weapons EVEN FROM WHITE PEOPLE!!!!!!!!

Chicken shit bastards will be hiding when we take our nation back. Just like they hide from every real war.

NRA-ILA Comments On Situation In New Orleans

Friday, September 09, 2005

Numerous media sources are reporting on a campaign by New Orleans city authorities to confiscate lawfully-owned firearms from people in the city. Louisiana statute does grant the government, during a state of emergency, broad powers in regulating and controlling firearms.

However, we have seen not just with Hurricane Katrina, but other similar situations, that when police are unable to control the criminal element, people turn to the one freedom that protects all others--the Second Amendment.

While one can certainly understand the dire predicaments of all those affected by Hurricane Katrina, as we have learned throughout history, campaigns to disarm the lawful do nothing to disarm the criminal. And in truth, these restrictions make citizens less safe. Despite the valiant efforts of many law enforcement officers and rescue workers, too many of those left in the wake of Katrina are ultimately responsible for their own security and safety and that of their families and loved ones. This is especially true when communication is virtually non-existent and police can't be quickly summoned to respond to calls for help. At these times, lawful gun ownership is paramount to personal safety.

Of course, the entire situation in New Orleans is constantly in flux. But rest assured NRA is monitoring this situation very closely and will address any activity by the government that unduly infringes upon the rights of lawful gun owners at the appropriate time. As we learn more, we will report to our members accordingly. In the interim, however, we join with all Americans in offering our thoughts, prayers, and assistance to the victims and survivors of this terrible natural disaster.
