I mean, that makes absolutely no sense - unless you have such control of the vote counting process that you know one will win and the other will add to the mandate. Otherwise, why wouldn't one drop out? Hell, Huffington dropped out.

Anyone?

1. The extra fundies will put the recount over the top
and then Arnold can beat Bustamante without the fundies.

4. That sounds reasonable. It is a two part election.
Thanks

2. because it only took

a small amount of money and a handful of signatures to get on the ballot. There were no primaries.

Originally, Uberroth, Issa, Simon, Riordan, McClintock AND Arnold all planned to run.

The state GOP here is something of a shambles. They managed to convince some of the guys not to run or to back out, but McClintock is a hold-out. I think he really doesn't want Arnold to win, and he's gonna do his best to stop him.

3. McClintock is the republican candidate, Arnie is Enron's candidate
Any republican voting for Arnie should be ashamed.

5. It's an open election
Actually, the Republicans are running more than two candidates and the Democrats are running quite a few, too. Of course, there are 135 candidates on the ballot, most of them looking for their 15 minutes.

6. They want to win... ?
Could someone explain why the Repubs are running TWO candidates in CA?

Arnold is popular and has the name recognition and the glitz and glamor but there are some really "purist" right wing types who oppose him because he is pro-choice and such. The way Arnold is going of late, he may have killed his chances anyhow. Maybe someone knew that was going to happen?

BTW, I thought the Republicans were running over a hundred candidates! :-)

7. because...Mcclintock is a democrat plant!
ha!;)

Wouldn't that be lovely?

Seriously..I dunno why...but if Mcclintock drops out, we are 100% SCREWED.

In my mind...he stays, we win. He drops out, we lose. Simple as that.

8. Because neither one of them
will drop out. I'm sure the state party would love either one of them to drop out, but it's not like you can force them to do it.

They've orchestrated endorsements day after day to put pressure on McClintock to drop out, but he's not going to.
