One week later, Gretna Police still kicking butt
Mission: Deterrence

September 10, 2005

<snip>

Two deputies were in the cruiser and another three or four were loaded into the truck.

The deputies asked the Guard how things were going. When the soldiers said it was boring, one deputy said "I guess we'll go make a run through there to see if we can stir some (stuff) up."

"They're going in in squad size. It looks like they're loading up," one Guardsman said as the deputies pulled forward about 50 yards to get ready to make their patrol.

The Guard prepared to spread out to catch anyone running from the deputies, but the next hour or so was quiet.

"They said they went back in there and kicked everybody's door in," said Sgt. Francis Estey of Arlington.

The incident quoted above happened on Thurs, Sept 6th. Almost a week AFTER the incident on the Crescent City Bridge. The source for the story is a National Guardsman. The police are bragging about going into their own neighborhoods to KICK BUTT, like it's no big deal.

Welcome to the SOUTH folks, were the racist, freeper mentality rules. When police kick butt, it's called brutality. This is how the Gretna Police protect people? Now tell me again, who are the bad guys?

1. In the south I live in
the racist, freeper mentality exists, but it does not rule.

I hope these "gentlemen" have to face discipline for this.

3. The racist freeper mentality is ruling the whole country
I didn't mean to single out just the south.

Fortunately the majority of people in the south and everywhere oppose this mentality and are now beginning to speak out against it. Christmas dinners are going to be real interesting this year.

2. How thuggish.
So, things were mellowing out, so they went and kicked in some doors to un-mellow it.

WTF.

5. Everyone was bored?
With the mess that the storm made you would think they would have better things to do?

Makes you wonder if it's a regular practice?

4. Nothing Is Said About This...
I posted last night about the Crescent City bridge episode and got flamed.

I've shown the email from that San Fransisco doctor to a lot of people...it's a harrowing narrative that I'm sure someday will make a great movie...sadly it was way to real.

Where's the corporate media in investigating what's going on in Gretna? They're quick to jump on the NOLA Police force as being "lawless" while a mercenary militia is operating across the river. Who knows what they've looted or what bodies they've hidden away in the fog that still covers that area.

7. This report is a 2nd and separate incident
and the report is from a National Guardsmen who was at the location.

I think this incident and the one on the Bridge show a pattern of behavior and the attitude of the Gretna Police toward a certain segment of society.

This needs to be reported to the LA authorities and appropriate steps need to be taken. These guys shouldn't have badges anymore.

9. They Also Hijacked Food And Water Trucks
I am not sure of the source, but I had seen several reports where either Gretna or a nearby area where food and water trucks were stopped and either hijacked or the drivers shaken down over the past couple weeks.

Now what do you expect when the sherrif of the town says he doesn't want another "Superdome" in his community and kept those people locked in. Why there isn't any investigation into this is beyond me...and yes, these guys not only shouldn't have badges, they should be arrested and see if they can be held complicit in any of the deaths at the Convention Center.

11. Because we need to tell people about it
The dust is just settling. Now that the 'emergency' is over, we can start bring this info out and try to get something done about it.

This is prima facia evidence of an attitude amongst a particular police dept. who think brutality is okay. IT IS NOT and we must act to stop it.

12. Sad It Took So Long
The posts about this doctor's email were on DU almost a week ago.

This just has such a Mad Max quality to it. At least the NYT picked up the UPI story...the Washington Moonie Times was the only other source I could google the other day. Maybe this will give it some credibility...and hopefully the Progressive blogs will pick up on this, too.

The game here isn't blame, it's accountability.
