Shriver: If I am raped, I'm damaged goods for Arnie"
apparently, the Gropinator doesn't appreciate other guys being "playful":

  http://www.democracynow.org/article.pl?sid=03/08/29/1417241
But I was told by Maria Shriver of "Dateline NBC" after the interview she told me if I had been raped, my husband would leave me because after all I would be damaged goods. And I have to say, I was pretty shocked when she said that. Because she said it so matter of factly that it really stunned me and stunned the entire crew that was there in the room. We were stunned into silence.

25. I wholly agree. So tragic. Is this the kind of world she lives in?
Anyone who lives in such constant fear of physical/emotional/psychological intimidation is to be pitied. At the same time - how can this relationship contribute positively to their kids development?

(Daddy loves Mommy as long as she is not raped by another man.)

There is something very wrong there. Also, the fact that she said something like that publicly may have been a small cry for help.

37. I don't think it was a cry for help... I think more it shows
how much she has internalized this view of women and what their role (subordinate) to men. I hate to say it, but I think it might have grown out of watching the role some Kennedy women played (in terms of philandering), and THEN marrying an even more extreme version.

The statement shows that the perception is so internalized that she couldn't "hear" that it was an abnormal statement, so there is no mental censorship before making the statement. To her, it seems, that this is a NORMAL perception.

6. With allegations like this, proven or not, how anyone in good conscious
can vote for this de-evolved bastard is beyond my comprehension.

PETER MANSO: What I find so appalling about the story you just told is that Maria Shriver apparently shares Arnold’s values. Because what I experienced with Arnold is that he’s chemically incapable of being in the presence of a woman without flirting, without sexual innuendo, without some kind of sexual play. And throughout the interview he did with me… I have no knowledge other than what I’ve read of Arnold’s abuse of women.
The attitude that runs throughout is to put it bluntly, women are hunks of meat, no more, no less. That Maria Shriver should basically subscribe to the same world view is appalling.

What more can be said?

13. There's Something Either Bi-Polar Or Co-Dependent Going On
My wife is assisting me with composing this. Both of us are amazed at all the stuff that appears to be coming out about Maria over these past couple days...the real sub-story in this fiasco.

It's a real bi-polar thing. For some (and for the life of me I can't understand it) feel her "support" for the Gropinator is the real key in his surge. Then there are those of us who see Maria as a very pathetic-looking character that really appears to be where the real "smoke" Arnie refers to is coming from.

My wife cringes at this "Stand By Your Man" routine she's been playing the last couple days considering all that's coming out about her supersized cyborg's oversized libido. He certainly hasn't denied it and should her Hulk be elected, she'll have to play a public role in his "administration"...she just doesn't look ready to handle any of this.

She's certainly in some form of self-denial about Arnie's past...or has long dismissed it as "then" (how many of us still harbor our own pasts from our partners). My other half goes further in thinking Maria is attracted to Arnie's sexual games like a moth to a flame...co-dependecy.

Whatever it is, there surely isn't something right inside Maria. The evidence of hubby's past is too strong to deny and certainly their ops people have even more stuff that hasn't gone to print that is even more explicit. All she has to do is click on Drudge and it's another horror story for her every day. But she's asked for it when she stepped up to the podium and into the public light.

15. Bi-polar is a mood disorder - you're "Manic" one moment and then "Depress
Could someone be more specific about her behavior? I used to be a Psych Social Worker. So far, she sound like a co-dependent (her husband is a sex addict) AND an abused wife to me.

Many politicians are extremely POWER HUNGRY and that is the main reason they get into politics. Domination is their game and many times it starts at home.
Arnold is not a politician, he is just POWER HUNGRY.

18. This was Nixon's case...he abused his wife..
and was drunk with power. Little man bushie also abused his wife He was always drunk.

To think that in the 21st century, a woman like Maria Shriver must dress according to how her husband pig husband demands. It's quite a dark side of what is going on in her head. He treats Maria the way his father, the Nazi, treated his mother. His mother was ruled by his father, right down to how she was to dress.

Maria is also drunk with power; she's married to Mr. Universe. That's even more power than the whole Kennedy family posses.

I find it weird that non of the Kennedys have come to her defense or are standing next to her. The Kennedys are known for the family unity, especially in times of dissaster.

a REAL man would hold his wife, help her and comfort her after an assault....
any man who would leave his wife after being attacked is NOT a man, but a pig. And any woman who stays in a relationship with a pig like that is a major enabler and classic case in the Psychiatric Textbooks.

obvious that repug men share a great deal with the Taliban when it comes to women (and fundementalism in general). Hell, I man I know is serving prison time right now for killing his girlfriends rapist (also not the right thing to do-but his anger was placed correctly, at least!)In fact, even the worst among the men I've dated would never have thought of a rape victim as "damaged goods"!

It's frieghtening that anyone would even consider voting for this abusive power crazed prick! Are his views truly accepted in the mainstream? what the hell is this country turing into?!

35. I've noticed that about her . . .
There's a "disconnect" between her words and her (even subconscious) actions.

Even before all these allegations happened, even when I've seen her on NBC, she acts as if womeone were peering over her shoulder. I guess now I know why.

Maria doesn't seem comfortable within her own skin.

Frightening--if he does this to his wife, what is he doing to their children? Worse yet, what will he do to California?

16. The thing that bothers me most is the message it gives.
Arnie is an icon, he had a big hit movie this summer and to many young boys he is a role model, a poster on the wall, what that hell kind of message does that send about treating women.
I have three friends who are high school teachers, the female teachers are getting sexually harassed by their pupils.
One of my friends has been asked if she has a nice c**t and another if she gives head, this is by fourteen year old boys and they see an action hero like Arnie get anyway with public groping!!!
Arnie does not love women he hates them.

17. She said this to a RAPE victim???
I am apalled. Having worked as an advocate for rape victims myself, I can hardly believe the insensitivity of this woman.

To call a victim "damaged goods" is like saying she "asked for it" or it was somehow "her fault." As if the trauma of being raped isn't terrible enough, that this is the attitude victims often encounter after the fact illustrates why they often view the post-rape experience as being equally traumatic as the actual crime itself.

A woman who would say this to another woman is a coldhearted piece of work. And Maria still views herself as a good Catholic? She is not fit to receive communion. The host should curdle in her throat and choke her.

I curse her to experience firsthand the crime she is able to so easily trivialize. Let her face her own traumatized daughter and say such a thing to her.

There are things in this world more important than worshipping a rich dick, Maria. Publically humiliating yourself by describing aspects of your pathetic sex slave relationship with your master will not earn you anything other than the contempt you deserve.

Sickening scrawny banshee. Pitiful. But not to be pitied.

21. Hey Oprah! What do you think of your pal now?
Is Maria Shriver fit to be First Lady of California? Great example for women--in the 17th century, that is.

By the way, wasn't Oprah raped? Am I to believe she is "damaged goods?" Is that the reason she never married? Perhaps Maria's marriage has something to do with Oprah's own reluctance to take the plunge.

Oprah, you need to find a new friend. This one wouldn't have been allowed to hide you for a night on the Underground Railroad, and she wouldn't have had the guts to do it on her own.

And I think your post should go into the admin forum so you can complain about the 'content' to DU directly, not shame DUers who, as you can see, overwhelmingly consider this an intensely relevant issue.

Arnie is a sex offender.

He has been accused of sexual harassment and assault by 15 women. A teacher would be taken out of the classroom if this many allegations were levelled against him.

He may not be brought to justice as he deserves, but he will be judged in the court of public opinion.

It's called tough love. What makes it all the worse is that the person being enabled is a candidate to run the world's 5th largest economy. That is just a bit more than a woman who supports her abusive husband.

You're spot on...O only cares about her rich world and her ego.

Not only didn't she confront Ahnold when he got a free hour-long commercial on her show about the past stories (and they've been out there for a long time) about his abusive nature with women, but downringht ignored it. So much for being a "champion" of battered women...especially when one was sitting inches from her.

Being one with outdoor plumbing, I've never been a fan of Oprah, but I respected her integrity. That was before she started playing "Queenmaker".

I thought her fluff stuff with the manchild and Pickles was way too cozy, but she did a similar treatment (or at least gave the same amount of airtime) to Gore. In Gropingrober's case, she didn't invite either Davis or Bustamante on.

From now on anytime she attempts to be an advocate for woman's rights someone should shout this wench down.
