Kennedy to receive Bush Award for Excellence

COLLEGE STATION -- U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy will receive the 2003 George Bush Award for Excellence in Public Service.

The award, which recognizes an individual's or group's dedication to public service at the local, state, national or international levels, will be presented to the Democratic lawmaker at a dinner ceremony Nov. 7 following a speech by Kennedy at Texas A&M University's Rudder Auditorium

Former President Bush will present the award to Kennedy, who will join former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev and former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl as recipients.

<snip>

Former President Bush has the sole discretion on who receives the award, said Penrod Thornton, deputy director of the George Bush Presidential Library Foundation.

BWA-HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

15. Bar will still vote for him. I think Bar and Dubya have an

old alliance against Poppy, who was away from home too much when his wife and kids needed him, and was also unfaithful to Bar, adding insult to injury.

Everyone says Dubya's personality is like Bar's -- and Nixon (Nixon!) said no one can hate like Barbara Bush can.

I know very little about her.

7. That was my reaction, too.
My father-in-law told me about it yesterday (he was STEAMING heehee) and I just said it didn;t sound like something that would really happen - that's why I googled it this morning and found this.

9. That would be the only scenario in which this would make sense...
If Kennedy accepted in order to blast Chimpy with Poppy looking on.

10. Nice fantasy, I suppose - but I expect that Ted will be a gracious guest..

...and Poppy a gracious host.

What we REALLY need is a CSPAN feed from the WH residence showing reaction shots of Smirky's horrified, impotent rage.

Anybody thinking another "pretzel bruise" is in the offing? That WH furniture can jump up and bite'cha after that 4th bourbon and branch.

11. Warning to Kennedy: "Don't let them 'NoChild Left Behind' you!!"
Nice words then a dagger in the heart...but he is smart enough to figure this out without my warning.

After all, he know what they're talking about when they say, "Fool me once..."

17. Delicious? Suspicious!
Okay, as we all know, in the present chapter of our saga, the CIA has rather openly declared its intent to get Dubya... and suddenly Dad himself, the True Kingmaker, and presumably a very high officer in the Real CIA, annoints one of Dubya's worst critics? The week after Kennedy said the whole Iraq war was a plot hatched in... TEXAS?

Sounds like some form of theater is being enacted here.

I can't wait to see the transcript of the Bush-Kennedy encounter.

Please let's be sober about this. If you were the ruling elite of a large, unwieldy and still-democratic empire, and if you wanted to control events in a chaotic society at a chaotic time, you would logically place your assets along the entire political spectrum. You would take a long view, and you would be flexible about staging the events to your ultimate advantage. You would be ready to promote and then drop politicians as proves useful to your interests.

Think about this people. Democratic Underground exists because of the December 2000 coup d'etat, which was managed by Papa Bush's people (Baker CIA et al.) on behalf of the son. And now, after committing that great crime on us all, Papa Bush turns around and does THIS to his Idiot Prince?

And do you really think the plausible explanation is that Papa Bush has turned on his own son? Or is it not simpler to believe that this was the plan in the first place?!

My guess: Dubya got his reward (four very unlikely years for a man of his talents) and has fulfilled his function. Almost complete are the barbarisms that were expected of his regime: Iraq, PATRIOT Act, Homeland Sec, government by Terror. Now the very elite that brought him to power understands that it's time for him to go, and for someone who can look good by comparison to take the reins - secretly thankful for the dirty work that Dubya has accomplished. The Idiot Prince goes, the people sigh in relief, a Savior appears, PATRIOT Act and the U.S. force deployments in Asia remain in place. But don't worry, the new guy will be much more enlightened about how these are used.

General Clark, step up to the plate?
