Soccer moms and Bush in the flight suit
Edited on Sun Oct-05-03 02:15 PM by ButterflyBlood
does anyone here know of any soccer moms or single women or previously were not planning on voting for *, but changed their minds after the flight suit stunt?

after reading some archived threads on FR it appears they actually honestly think * will win the soccer mom vote due to that, at least the right wing pundits were possibly joking.

1. from what I have seen...
...the soccer mom has lost ground to the security mom. And Bush is increasingly losing the security mom. And Wes Clark is very appealing to the security mom.

28. Of course Clark is appealing to the Security mom and the ..
Nascar dads. We have a ringer in Wes Clark. Would be stupid and fool- hearted not to support this man to the fullest. He IS the silver bullet (borrowing that term from Mr. Pitt). He's polling better than all candidates in the south. It looks like he will poll better than all candidates in all regions. Clark is a God send. He can not only defeat smirk, but do it in a very humiliating fashion and in a way that smirk will be unable to steal it this time.

2. no freakin' way
I think the soccer moms will flock to a Kerry or Edwards. And it's very likely that one of them will be on the ticket somehwere.

5. yep.
i saw talk about how they didn't need to worry about the Democratic candidates appeal to soccer moms because "after the flight suit pictures, Bush has their votes in his back pocket"

7. Nooner would get hot over a stuffed sock.
The woman is sick. But Nooner was never a "soccer mom."

I can't speak for "soccer moms," as I was more of a "debate team mom" and a "divorced mom struggling to raise two kids by herself." Also I have reached that age where the fires aren't burning as hot as they used to, if you catch my drift. But they haven't gone out entirely.

Just on pure sex appeal, in my opinion as a mature lady: Clark is hotest, although Howard Dean is pretty appealing, too. Edwards is cutest (of the guys; I think Carol Mosley Braun is very cute, too), but he's a babe, so he doesn't do anything for me.

The rest of the field -- no sparks.

This has nothing to do with how these individuals might do as PRESIDENT, mind you.

Hahahahahahah! I cracked up during the flight suit thing.

What's a security mom? Is it a paranoiac who thinks her the soccer ball her kids play with is a bomb?

that when he got out of the jet...he looked like a little kid that just got off the tea cup ride and disneyland...

All the jokes about this going around...did they actually think that the photo op would win voters...oh he can play a great fighter pilot but he can't run a friggin country...

27. Maybe we should make posters - GW in his depends-lined
flight suit, with the caption "10 miles from California"

And a picture of a bloodied soldier being loaded onto a stretcher (oh, wait, there are no war photographers anymore, since we can't have images of real war) with the caption including the number of miles from California, plus x miles from Baghdad?

13. Depends on which women you talk to
My women friends from my hometown near Atlanta tend to like men in uniforms and were OK with Bush's flight-suit stunt.
My friends here in SF pretty much all dislike the military and Bush. They see Bush's stunt very negatively.

has NEVER found W to be attractive. He almost always smirks, which is an extreme turn-off as far as I'm concerned. I've known guys like that, and they're not good in bed, trust me.

17. Give me a freaking break!
I am a soccer mom. I am a soccer mom who likes.... well, we can figure that one out (not going too far, as its not the lounge here).
This man in a flight suit has affect on me whatsoever and if some woman would actually vote for him because he stuffed his pants (or even the remote chance he didn't) is a moron.

That's akin to all a lesbian needs is a good man to change her, and giving the little woman a roll in the hay will get her mind off something she's mad about.
I've know guys like the moron* bragging swaggering blowhards who didn't give a shit as long as they got theirs if you know what I mean. What any woman would see in someone like that is beyond me.

22. that's a load of codswallop
women were supposed to vote for Dan Quayle, too, because he was supposed to be good looking. Nothing attractive about an empty suit, whether it be 3 piece or flight.

I am so weary of the attitude that women vote with their vaginas. I bring mine into the voting booth, but my HAND holds the pen.

31. It's projection
If the Republicans ran a woman who looked like a youthful movie actress, talked like Betty Boop, and campaigned in slinky satin minidresses, the freepers would run panting to the voting booth.

I've twice overheard right-wingish men attributing the victories of (1) Bill Clinton and (2)former Oregon governor John Kitzhaber to "women voting for the handsome guy." It never occurred to them that women might actually like their policies better.

24. They have absolutely no idea what goes on inside a soccer mom(this
one included) mind. A heck of a lot of us were home during the day when 9-11 happened, and we wondered where the hell the p-resident-was. Alot of us abhor the way he would rip our children from our arms and send them off to fight a war for his financial benefit. In closing, a lot A LOT of us are educated, and well informed. Soccer mom shouldn't stand for uninformed, barefoot and unconscious to the world around us. Sheeesh, give me Johnny Depp any day.

Done ranting now. ; )

26. Neither do some DU members
One of my constant gripes with some members of DU is the constant stereotyping. Soccer moms, rednecks, and yes even Republicans and members of the CIA. I think of Matcom and his wonderful posts about his Dad, I think of my Republican neighbor who is so kind and helpful to my family, some really nice rednecks and of course at one time I could have been considered a soccer mom.

Knock it off. Don't prove the other side right in their stereotypes of Democrats...."they love the masses but hate the individual."

29. the old saying about how Bush's dad "reminds every woman of ..."
"... her first husband".

Well, Junior reminds me of the dorks who would get drunk at parties, then run around hitting on anything with two "X" chromosomes, utterly convinced they were God's gift to women.

Remember -- this is a man who believes that being respectful and kind to the woman in his life means slapping her behind in public, telling her to go sweep the porch, and calling her "the lump in the bed".

30. And as someone who's been married
so far only once, to the same man for 23 years now, I always found that "reminds her of her first husband" comment to be extremely offensive, even though I thought that Bush sr was no great catch.
