When you think of the average Republican voter, what do you think of?
Edited on Sun Oct-05-03 03:50 PM by Socialist Worker
This is a humor thread.

How do you picture the idiots (particularly the ones who don't benefit financially from the GOP, i.e. the bottom 95-99%)? I think of beer-guzzling rednecks who treat their wives like dirt (or lumps in the bed) and view blacks and Latinos as though they're not human.

1. The problem with this analysis is that
"beer guzzling rednecks" are a symptom of the education crisis in this nation. Why do I think a "Socialist Worker" would be a but more sympathetic in their terminology. My father was a union organizer who worked with "beer guzzling rednecks" who brought the California agriculture industry to it's knees in order to gain justice for migrant farmworkers. Many of the men taking part in the strikes were beer guzzling rednecks from places like Oklahoma.

4. Sorry about that.
I've gotten a lot of shit from racist rednecks, so forgive my crudeness. When I saw rednecks, moreover, I'm talking about fascists, not people who adhere to Socialist principles. I have no problem with them being alcoholics or being uneducated.

But not all workers are socialists, you have to remember. Hitler had plenty of worker support from people who thought communism and socialism were Jewish plots to take the money from the "Aryan worker." And there are the Christian fanatics here in America who are complete morons.

27. "Average", what do you want to say.
Edited on Sun Oct-05-03 05:48 PM by BonjourUSA
Would you say that 50% of Americans look like the figure you're picturing ?

Though, I saw today a specimen. He was interviewed on his feelings about the war in Iraq. his answer has been absolutely astonishing for someone who lives in a democracy and can vote : "No matter what makes my country I will always be with it". (I hope my translation is correct, because this idiot spoke French in my French Tv set :-) )

But the expression is actually, "cut (his) nose to spite (his) face", rather than "despite".

Just one of life's missions for me. Please don't be offended.

7. I think of someone....
with a surface knowledge of the issues...for example, he/she knows that Bill Clinton had a chance to capture Osama but didn't and believes that Saddam was involved in 9/11. They are loyal to their Party. They are pragmatists more than ideologues, for example, it is more important that Arnold be elected Governor of California than that
he be a "true" conservative. They do not believe the Rush Limbaugh story. It's just the "liberal media" again...

8. I Think Of My Brother
He was playing the stock market and lost over $120,000 that he never had in the bank plus his inital investment.

Naturally, it was blamed on Clinton's hairy wanger....

I'm just wondering when his Credit-Card companies are going to cut his a** off of "borrowed money" and if he will realize that every dollar on loan will cost him an additional quarter on the buck?

23. I think of my brother too!
He got rich off Enron. He used to work for them (not high level) but when the shit hit the fan, he got a VERY CHUNKY severence package. I just said, "pat yourself on the back, you just made your money off the backs of the middle class who couldn't afford to pay their gas bills (c.2000)" He of course is one of the first ones to blame Clinton but then again he is a Limbarf rethuglican. You know, one of the uninformed!

9. Sheltered, naive, and gullible
Many of them are not "bad" people but don't understand what the world is actually like.

Many of them feel "poor people made bad choices" and don't deserve real consideration on just, why, they are poor. Or they don't understand how big business if left to it's own device will rip-off anyone and everyone it can to increase it's profit from large, to insanely large, to disgustingly large.

It really is no suprise most rethugs are rich (and have always been) or live in isolated areas. They don't see what it's like to be discriminated against or taken advatage of and they don't take the time to even care or think about it.

Who just had his doublewide repossessed. His unemployment benefits ran out a couple of months back. His wife left him because he thinks it's her fault that she lost her job down at the Tyson plant and his National Guard son won't be home from Iraq for an extra six months minimum.

He's sleeping in his pickup truck with his dog and his 30-ought-six in case them bank boys come around again--and he just can't wait to vote for bu$h again because it's so good to have a Christian in the White House.

13. I think...
either they have to be extremely wealthy and therefore protecting their own self-interests without concern for others.

Or a easy-manipulated person uninformed on the issues as to who's really looking out for their interests.

Or a single issue voter, usually involving abortion issues.

That's been my experience with Rebublicans anyway.

17. I know a lot of 'type 2'...
but I know a WHOLE lot of 'type 3'!!!!!

To many around here, I am always asking, "why don't your beloved republicans ever get around to really standing up against abortion, like initiating a Constitutional Amendment"?

I get empty stares in return. For years, the abortion foes have believed their white knights would turn the issue around. If that ever happened, they'd lose they're only tool for re-election. It is such a passionate issue for both sides, that often all else never noticed. That is how these poor fools think, one issue; and that issue is NEVER resolved, nor will it ever be.

16. I think of them as people
who can never "connect the dots", They blame Gray Davis for the energy crisis and they neglect to connect the dots that lead to Enron and chimp. I have some repug acquaintances and see it is that way on everything with them. If it wasn't this way with them being unable to connect the dots I don' see how in the hell they could be repugs cause they are ordinary working people, the repugs offer them NOTHING. :argh:

24. Aggressive, white male "victims" with small weenies.
Us vs. Them'ers.

Some people see the world like a football game. They define themselves by the "team" they're on (race, religion, nationality, etc.). Anyone outside their perceived team is the enemy and must be beat down. I think that's the sort of person the Republican platform targets; basically, mean people.

28. Bottom line is they are uninformed.
They don't read the newspaper. They get the bulk of their information from their Repuke friends.

I spoke to my realtor today (she and her husband are trying to sell my house). I purposely moved the conversation to politics, bush*, and the war. I explained how bush* had lied in justifying the war to congress, that congress's "approval" was therefore invalid and the war is illegal. Her reply to that:

"But Saddam attacked the world trade center".

This is what we have to deal with here, folks. I tried to straighten her out over the next ten minutes. She trusts me and she knows I'm not lying to her. But she can't accept it since if she did it would mean so many of her beliefs and actions would no longer be valid. That she would have to recognize that she has been supporting a lying murderer. So she uses what so many in her position do, she uses DENIAL. And she gets through another day.

What kind of private school is it? is it religious or like advanced. Hows your idea going with your parents to switch? You'd love public school. No uniforms :), more tolerance of things in general :), and above all more fun :). I for the record debated the war in history class. No one gave a damn that Reagan gave Saddam the weapons, give me 5 guys :) I brought that up.

38. Someone who would hate Bush if they really knew him.
They hate "hand-outs" and like merit. Bush lived off the kindness of strangers his whole life and never did anything of merit on his own. He is a mediocrity.

Republicans claim to hate liars and frauds. Only the lowest of scum pretend to be what they are not. Most Republicans don't read enough, like most Democrats. So Republicans are voting for a guy they just don't know. They voted for a brand and didn't realize that the company had changed products.

"The company" (the GOP) took out all of the quality ingredients and substituted Bush-level junk. Republicans are starting to figure it out, and boy are they going to be disappointed.
