Flying Spaghetti Monster gains mainstream acceptance!
Edited on Wed Sep-14-05 07:57 AM by acmejack
Alternate religion scored big this week when it gained mainstream recognition!

Noodly Savior by Tim Grieve

snip>
""We have evidence that a Flying Spaghetti Monster created the universe," wrote the religion’s founder, Bobby Henderson, in a recent letter to the Kansas Board of Education. "None of us, of course, were around to see it, but we have written accounts of it. We have several lengthy volumes explaining all details of His power."

Yes, this is a joke. Henderson, 25, decided to write his open letter to the state’s education officials in response to their plan to deemphasize the teaching of evolution in schools and in the wake of President Bush’s remarks Aug. 1 regarding the teaching of Intelligent Design, that the "decision should be made local school districts" but "both sides ought to be properly taught ... so people can understand what the debate is about."
snip>

Henderson, who says he recently graduated from Oregon State University with a degree in physics, concluded his letter by saying: "I think we can all look forward to the time when these three theories are given equal time in our science classrooms across the country, and eventually the world -- one third time for Intelligent Design; one third time for Flying Spaghetti Monsterism; and one third time for logical conjecture based on overwhelming observable evidence."

The Flying Spaghetti Monster does't have a monopoly on religious satire this week. "The Daily Show" promises to end the debate on evolution in a series that began Monday called, "Evolution Schmevolution: A Daily Show Special Report."

29. But will they cover it in evolution schmevolution on the Daily Show
it sounds like something from the Onion, it only makes sense to cover it on TDS.

We must convert the Daily Show.

3. Physics major - Spaghetti Monster ? He must be referring to String Theory
In which case, he's on far better grounds than ID.

A bit of scientific humor on Henderson's part, I think.

12. When I first heard about the FSM a while back, I wasn't sure
if it was a reference to string theory, or if it was just a person making one of the most absurd creation theories he could think of.

Either way, though, I will say this:

There is just as much evidence for the FSM Theory as there is for Biblical creationism and Intelligent Design. So, anyone who truly has an interest in letting "all ideas be heard" will teach about the FSM.

I haven't seen any other religion of an eternal reward consisting of a beer volcano and a stripper factory. Until I get a better offer, I'm sticking with the FSM.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2005/09/11/wfsm11.xml&sSheet=/portal/2005/09/11/ixportal.html

'In recent weeks, a satirical attack on the teaching of Creationism in American schools has become the world's fastest growing 'religion'. The Noodly Saviour looked at the furore He had created and pronounced it good, writes James Langton'

and in the Telegraph yet! Can't get more mainstream than that.

Of course a well-balanced intake of the FSM is recommended for true slavation, but I don't believe there will be retribution for restricting your yourself to meatballs..... He is, if nothing, a benevolent pasta.

If so, for FSMs sake, don't edit it out. It's too perfect.

25. FSM Faithful Hold Vigil at Kansas IHOP
ST. FRANCIS -- Thousands of people, some from as far away as Omaha, made a pilgrimage to an obscure Western Kansas IHOP over the weekend after two women, Mrs. Wilma Flynn-Stone and Mrs. Betty Ruebell, were served a heapin' helpin' of buttermilk pancakes bearing an image with an uncanny likeness to the deity some call the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

The pilgrims, who call themselves Pastaferians, stood for hours in line to get a glimpse of the extra tall stack of buttermilk pancakes bearing the holy image of His noodly appendages.

"I was about to put butter and syrup on them," says Mrs. Flynn-Stone, "when Betty suddenly shrieked and knocked the butter knife out of my hand.

"Betty is my best friend," confides Mrs. Flynn-Stone, "but sometimes she can be a bit of a drama queen. At first, I thought, maybe she was just being dramatic. About what, I had no clue. Then she turned the plate slightly, and I saw... I saw His noodly appendages, and my heart just stopped. Thank heavens she stopped me before I desecrated those pancakes!"
