1. This isn't real. I can't go on any longer believing the public
is thinking he's getting better. Wasn't he just at 36 or 38%? Such crap.

Speaking does not make it better
Every time he opens his mouth, things get worse. I'm just afraid they'll try to start another war to whip up some of that patriotic ferver they seem to be able to drum up when they have an "enemy."

10. My kids & their friends are livid
that the Chimp's blathering will prevent "OC" from being aired tonight.
Of course, my kids are already progressive Dems, but I imagine this will piss off a lot of other young OC fans across the US.

Every little bit helps the poll #s go down.

6. results are from many different polls
There are dozens of polls, each with their own numbers showing different levels of approval/disapproval.

I have always had a difficult time believing that any polling company can pick 1000 people and accurately reflect the attitude of the entire country.

What I focus on is the trends in a particular poll. Regardless of whether it's 36, 38, or 40% every single poll shows *'s numbers dropping by 5-6 percentage points over the last few months. THAT is significant.

3. And they will continue to drop after his speech. The man must be the
worst public speaker I have seen. His polls always drop after he talks in public.

4. WHY SO DAMNED HIGH?
Argued with parental freeper yesterday, who wants to blame NO's mayor and LA's gov. Finally got him to admit the Bush looked clueless, and Brown was a disaster. But, people have bought into the spin, at least those looking for some sign of life in the rovian sphere.

I must say, the arguments were easier yesterday than ever before, so i suspect that even ultra-conservatives can be realistic at times.

9. This Is Within The Statistical Range Of The Last Two Polls
These polls, given the "small" sample, are only accurate to within, at best, plus/minus 2.5% at the 95% confidence interval.

So, a 39% one week, and a 41% the next are likely indicative of "no change".

If one actually does a compendium of the several commonly seen polls like Zogby, Gallup, ARC, Pew, Harris, (who i think does the CBS/NYT poll), the aggregate is about 38%. Since the samples of these combine, the margin of error at the 95% CI falls dramatically. And, the probable error of the value gets proportionally smaller as well. As a result, we would see some polls showing, at the high end of their error range, a difference of 3% from the overall mean.

This is not surprising, and shouldn't be seen as a positive trend for Silverspoon.

12. I'm not comparing with others as to change, just the raw number
Why can 39-41% of the public still support him at all?

that entire range is too high.
divorced from reality, just like thhe president.

17. No Argument From Me
I completely concur. I just wouldn't make too much of THIS poll's numbers.

But, how any more than the 20% of the lunatic right could still support this buffoon is as much a mystery to me as it is to you.

5. Agree that anything in 40's is high, but overall trend is down
Edited on Thu Sep-15-05 08:22 AM by DemsUnited
It will stabilize a bit around 40 - 45% but any bad news will take it down, such as

1) Continuing violence in Iraq and problems with Iraqi Constitution.

2) CIA outing indictments

3) Huge gas & winter heating bills

4) Any ongoing problems with reconstruction on the Gulf Coast (the Feds were slow to own the problem, but in the eyes of the nation, they own it now.)

7. yes, and Jr's marks on terriorism is down also!! (his trump card)
......For the first time, just half of Americans approve of Mr. Bush's handling of terrorism, which has been his most consistent strength since he scored 90 percent approval ratings in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 attacks. More than 6 in 10 now say that he does not share their priorities for the country, 10 percentage points worse than on the eve of his re-election last fall, while barely half say he has strong qualities of leadership, about the same as said so at the early low-ebb of his presidency in the summer of 2001.

15. Take a look at the numbers for these two questions
Does GWB have same priorities for country as you?

Does Congress have same priorities for country as you?

Damn high on the "No" side.

So why would you want to have a beer with someone who doesn't want the same things you do?

16. "GWB Response To Katrina, Too Quick..."
So, 65% think it was too slow and yet 44% approve of his handling???? Man, cognitive dissonance is a bitch. Also, who the fuck are these insane 1% who think Chimpy was TOO QUICK????? I know it's only 1%, but, I mean, WTF???

18. He's desperately trying to save himself...
his survival instincts are very strong...He has now made three trips to New Orleans and the disaster area. He made a speech in front of the UN. Then he pronounced that he accepted responsibility to the extent the Federal Government was responsible, and now, he's going to give an address to the American people on nationwide TV in prime time. What's next? He does a tap dance in a tutu?
