http://www.nola.com/newslogs/tporleans/index.ssf?/mtlogs/nola_tporleans/archives/2005_09_16.html#080196

The Times-Picayune has a bunch of stats at the webpage above, including a death toll. But I don't know where they're getting the numbers from (thus reliability is in question!)

DEATH TOLL
558
t 444 bodies at the metrowide morgue at St. Gabriel
t 53 bodies in East Baton Rouge Parish
t 27 bodies in Jefferson Parish
t 14 bodies in Terrebonne Parish
t 6 bodies in St. Tammany Parish
t 6 bodies in Iberia Parish
t 3 bodies in St. Charles Parish
t 3 bodies in Plaquemines Parish
t 2 bodies in Assumption Parish

1. Not to worry, the Funeralgate folks are on top of this.
They will manipulate the figures.

2. I have to wonder about the 3 in Plaq...the whole area was pretty much
wiped out. Can it have been properly searched & investigated yet?

4. These are obviously not final numbers
As more bodies are found, the numbers will be adjusted.

11. Yes, that's why I was pondering over how much recovery has been done
down there. I can't remember any specific news reports from way down in the delta.

5. It's more likely that they haven't retrieved the bodies yet
They don't count until they are picked up and processed.

6. I saw an article yesterday..........
........that said they have only searched about 20% of New Orleans so far. So they will probably find many more bodies......

3. The don't list St. Bernard
Plus, they just started this week. Further, thousands are missing and probably most won't ever be found.

8. I'm also certain that the St. Bernard Parish numbers are included...
in the metrowide morgue numbers. I saw that earlier this week.

10. Also, almost all will be found (short of Plaquemines Parish)...
this is not the type of flooding where anyone was swept out to sea. The flooding was in a contained urban bowl.

16. FEMA finally started a block by block search in ON. today, so the
death rate I've read totaled 800 today, not including the block by block searches and all the bodies floating in the waters aren't all picked up.
