What corporate welfare programs would you advise Bush to cut to pay for
Katrina rebuilding?

Bush wants to cut spending, rather than raise taxes. What "spending" would you advise him to cut?

I'll start: corporate welfare to the oil companies

"We got to maintain economic growth, and therefore we should not raise taxes," Mr. Bush said. Working people have already been subject, in effect, to a tax increase through higher gasoline costs, he said, "and we don't need to be taking more money out of their pocket."

What you miss, Mr. Bush, is that your prior tax cuts for the extremely wealthy and for corporations did little to stimulate the economy. What little stimulation there was came from the tax rebates you sent out (2001, I believe) - this according to Paul O'Neill, former Treasury Secretary, in The Price of Loyalty.

3. I agree, defense spending and stop with the eliminating of the....
estate tax. The wealthy already have plenty, time to spread the wealth around in this country.

Studies have shown only a handful of farmer would benefit from
elimination of the estate tax. Virtually all, with appropriate tax planning and a slight increase in the amount of income excluded from the estate tax, would not be subject to the estate tax.

14. My mistake- it's two separate issues that I made look like one. SB
Estate tax

AND

welfare for farmers, most of whose income comes from the mailbox.

Plus, as a Canadian I dislike the idea of tarrifs collected illegally going to subsidize the corporations that brought the bullshit trade complaint in the first place. Won't help you pay for Katrina, though.

6. He could reverse tax cuts. He could stop givng all tariff & punitive
duties to the corporations themselves. Stop subsidizing the Oil companies.

He could stop emptying the treasury of gold.

So many things.

8. If you take the tax breaks back..
..they won't do business in the US anymore. Yeah, right.

They would walk away from the most materialistic, possession coveting, greedy, financially irresponsible, spend crazy, "gotta have right now" market in the world if we don't give them their tax breaks.:banghead:

9. Those "Rebates" were not rebates, they were advances
or loans on the money you over paid from your withholding.

12. Let's start with the salaries of Bush, Cheney, Rove, et al ad naseum...
They need to experience life as the masses do. I'm sick of these folk stealing our tax dollars to enrich themselves.

It's only fair since these re-puke 'elected' officials don't work for America anyway.

I also vote for a cut in Halliburton and Carlyle contracts.

13. Halliburton and it's subsidiaries need to be cut off from the
government tit. Not only is it a company that is constantly on the edge of being legal in it's dealings, it's already made so much money from corporate welfare, that I don't think it needs anymore.

I think they need an independent counsel to investigate them and their dealings.
