Is the United States turning into another "Enron".
I've braced myself for laughter and jeers, so I'm now prepared to just throw this out there...

The events of the past few weeks have raised many questions about the willingness and ability of our government to respond to disasters. I've gone through thinking that the lack of response was sheer incompetence to thinking that it was indifference to thinking that, at some level, it was on purpose. Today, I found myself thinking that maybe our country is just flat broke. Maybe they've pulled an Enron on us.

We've witnessed the creative (or absent) accounting in Iraq, at the Pentagon, and HUD. We have an enormous debt burden. Maybe they couldn't afford a recovery effort. Maybe they're waiting for aid from other countries. Maybe they're using whatever cash they have to line their own pockets while they can.

Of course this doesn't explain deliberately turning away different aid groups...

1. Let's take that one step further.... when you realize that Halliburton
owns Ingersoll Dresser Pumps... and when you realize that the pumps that are being put in S. Florida are pretty much ALL INGERSOLL DRESSER PUMPS, and when you realize that the rest of the pumps are probably supplied by MWI, Jeb's old business partners... it isn't hard to imagine the following picture being somewhat based in reality.

2. We're Being Raped Like A Third-World Country
Check Confessions of An Economic Hitman, by John Perkins. Then you'll see that these bastards are now doing it to us.

3. Confessions of an Economic Hitman sounds like a great book!

Description
From the introduction of Confessions of an Economic Hit Man:

"Economic Hit Men are highly paid professionals who cheat countries around the globe out of trillions of dollars. They funnel World Bank, US government, and other foreign 'aid' funds into the coffers of international businesses and the pockets of a few wealthy families who control the planet's natural resources. Their tools include fraudulent financial reports, rigged elections, payoffs, extortion, and murder. They play a game as old as Empire but one that has taken on new and terrifying dimensions during this time of globalization.

"I should know; I was one."

Synopsis
In his controversial book, John Perkins tells the gripping tale of the years he spent working for an international consulting firm where his job was to convince underdeveloped countries to accept enormous loans, much bigger than they really needed, for infrastructure development--and to make sure that the development projects were contracted to U. S. multinationals. Once these countries were saddled with huge debts, the American government and the international aid agencies allied with it were able, by dictating repayment terms, to essentially control their economies. It was not unlike the way a loan shark operates--and Perkins and his colleagues didn't shun this kind of unsavory association. They referred to themselves as "economic hit men."
