Karl Rove, President Bush's top political advisor and deputy White House chief of staff, spoke at businessman Teddy Forstmann's annual off the record gathering in Aspen, Colorado this weekend. Here is what Rove had to say that the press wasn't allowed to report on.

Keeping the issue strictly on New Orleans keeps the focus off how screwed up preparations are in other cities as well as the depth of corruption in all Federal Departments as they've become patronage haven for his political cronies. Pay no attention to those people. Pay attention to the Democrats...blame the locals.

Yep, no "serious" politician went to Camp Casey cause they saw how badly Karl was handling this thing. There wasn't the need for a high profile Democrat to show up to bring the cameras...they were already there. Also, with the corporate media being in attendence at this pronouncement (note the list of those present) it was Rove chastisizing the corporate media for giving this story any play at all.

He's playing the typical repugnican game of tear down the opponent to make yourself look bigger and your friends feel they're doing the right thing by agreeing with you.

This is preventive work as he knows the unpopularity of the war and the demonstration coming up in Washington aren't going to be the last. He is lowering the expectations so the networks avoid covering the protests and continue to portray them as "anti-boooosh" or "un-American".

Call this a lot of wishful thinking, but if there wasn't an anti-war movement, Karl, then what were all those folks camped out at your doorstep while your manchild was on vacation? Who kept you cooped up in that chicken ranch afraid to come out. Then after you did escape, how you went to Idaho and Arizona and this military base and that corporate headquarters to hide from that "clown".

Translation: Keep polling until you find one with the numbers Rove likes. This again is chastisizing the corporate media that it's their fault they're not shilling the regime's "Iraq is progress line". He want this constitutional circus and vote not to be covered as a cause of violence and further problems in the country, but as some triumph for this regime. He want the TV flooded with people with purple fingers and dancing in the streets.

Now I'd be curiosu what he would consider the "success" in Iraq that needs explaining.
