‘X-rated’ textbook to focus on sexuality for Muslim teenagers

SINGAPORE - A textbook on sexuality with “X-rated” on its cover will be introduced in Islamic religious education classes in November at mosques and private centres, Singapore’s largest Muslim body confirmed on Monday.

The Islamic Religious Council of Singapore is putting out the book focusing on sexuality and emotions for Muslim teenagers as part of a bid to jazz up religious instruction.

The book and workshops are aimed at discussing previously taboo issues with religious teachers. They are part of a revamp of religious education for Muslim youth.

Sexuality education is an integral aspect of becoming an adult, Farah Mahamood Aljunied, head of the council’s Islamic Education Strategic Unit, told The Straits Times.

2. Islam in Singapore
Edited on Mon Sep-19-05 03:34 AM by PsychoDad
Has evolved in some very interesting ways where 18% of the population is Muslim.

In fact Singapore has Sharia mediation courts and a Sharia appeals court much like the ones Canada is considering. The Islamic Religious Council of Singapore or Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura deals with the government on Islamic matters. The group is responsible to look after social, religious, and welfare needs of the Muslims in Singapore. Its functions and processes are set out in the Administration of Muslim Law Act.

For more Info see: http://www.muis.gov.sg/english/Home.aspx?pMenu=1

The muslims of Singapore seem to be very religiously Conservative while being very socially progressive.

Heck, Singapore itself is a very interesting place where Islam, Christianity, Buddhism and Hinduism co-exist side by side.

Peace
