I need DU'ers opinion on this...
I recently got this in a response to a statement that I made that people are tired of Bush and that he will not make it in 2004...

and this is what I got as a reply...
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hmmm...He is going down in 04'...by which candidate? Here is where they stand...

NATIONWIDE

Kerry Still Lags Lieberman, Gephardt Nationwide. A CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll asked registered Democrats nationwide, "hich of those candidates you would be most likely to support for the Democratic nomination for president in the year 2004"?

Lieberman 21%
Gephardt 17
No one/No opinion 16
Kerry 13
Graham 7
Dean 7
Sharpton 6
Edwards 6
Braun 5
Kucinich 1
Other 1

(CNN/USA Today/Gallup Poll, Registered Democrat Voters Among 1,385 Adults Nationwide, Conducted 6/12-18/03, Margin Of Error +/- 4%)

IN THE STATES

IOWA (Caucus January 19, 2004)

Dean, Kerry Gain Ground Against Gephardt. A Harstad Research poll for Planned Parenthood of Greater Iowa asked Democrats who attended the 2000 Democrat Caucuses, "Thinking ahead to the 2004 presidential election, if you were asked to choose your first choice among the Democratic candidates for president today, which ONE of the following nine Democrats would you vote for?"

Dick Gephardt 21%
Howard Dean 20
John Kerry 18
Joe Lieberman 11
John Edwards 5
Dennis Kucinich 2
Bob Graham 3
Carol Moseley-Braun 1
Al Sharpton -
Don't Know/Not Sure 18

(Harstad Research Poll, 328 2000 Democrat Caucus-Goers, Conducted 6/16-24/03, Margin Of Error +/- 5.4%)

NEW HAMPSHIRE (Primary January 24, 2004)

Lieberman Lags Behind Fellow Northeasterners. A Research 2000 Poll asked likely New Hampshire Democrat primary voters who their choice was for the 2004 Democrat presidential nomination.

Kerry 30%
Dean 21
Undecided 18
Gephardt 11
Lieberman 10
Edwards 3
Graham 2
Clark 2
Sharpton 1
Braun 1
Kucinich 1

(American Research Group Poll, 600 Likely New Hampshire Democrat Primary Voters, Conducted 6/14-17/03, Margin Of Error +/- 4%)
----------------------------------------------------------------------

When I googled this I couldn't find these numbers anywhere...?

What do you all think that this person is thinking...?

1. I think the person who sent this to you does not know what they
are talking about. Most people who follow elections know that in the primarys the "base" is the group who get out and vote for the candidates. Most of the polls cited here are regular polls, a cross-section of likely voters, not the "base" who will actually get out and vote.

And from what I have seen, the "base" is leaning towards Dean and Kerry.

3. Look to the past
Poppy Bush was pretty much unbeatable at this point in the election cycle in 1991. IT's just too soon to tell. Polls are pretty ify right now and I'm not about to throw in the towel a year and a half before the election just because there isn't a Dem frontrunner beating Bush. Good grief, the Iowa caucus isn't until January. THat's 6 more months of bad economic stats and quagmire in Iraq to get people wide awake and pissed off. Most people are paying attention right now. GIve it time, they will

Edited on Mon Jul-07-03 06:47 PM by imax2268
that's what I keep saying but they just don't seem to get it...they think that he will win in a landslide and they keep saying that our country is in great shape...

it's so very frustrating to voice an opinion elsewhere and have some freeper come in a post that kind of shit...but what can you do...just wait till 04 I suppose...!

Thanks for the info...

I also saw recently on CNN that there was a poll they did on whether or not Bush would win in 2004...now...it said something like 88% said no...

Does anyone know what I'm referring to...I can't find those results...!

8. yay--my first post!
I saw that CNN poll and you're right! It was 12% yes, Bush will be re-elected; 88% NO he won't! Happy-happy!

I tried to find it on CNN.com, but no luck.

I've been lurking for 2 weeks . . . so psyched to find this place!

5. What is this guy's point?
Edited on Mon Jul-07-03 06:49 PM by Rumpole
Here we are, before the start of the primaries and a year before the Dem convention, and there is no clear leader among the candidates. Does this somehow show that the Dem's are weak? At this time in 1991, who had heard of Bill Clinton? In July 1999, who could believe we would have that thing in the White House? This guy's poll data are irrelevant. Point his nose toward the repeated failures of the the occupying party, then tell him that any reasonably strong Dem could knock Little Boots out of the box.

ON EDIT: I see (above) that you've already tried this approach. If the guy can't see it, then he just isn't looking. You don't have to argue on his terms.

6. Important to remember:
47.9% of all statistics are made up on the spot.
Including that one.
