LA state number of confirmed deceased victims 9-19-05
736 confirmed deaths, up by 90 from yesterday's tally.

Deceased Victims Update 9-19-2005

September 19: Updated Number of Deceased Victims Resulting from Hurricane Katrina

* At this time, state officials, working in conjunction with coroners from local parishes have confirmed 736 deaths.

* These numbers have been reported to state officials by local coroners.

* A breakdown of these deaths is as follows:

571 are at the morgue in St. Gabriel

Parish Coroners:

Ascension -- 2
Assumption -- 2
East Baton Rouge – 67
Iberia – 6
Jefferson – 30
Lafourche -- 2
Livingston -- 4
Plaquemines -- 3
St. Charles – 5
St. Tammany – 7
Tangipahoa -- 20
Terrebonne -- 15
West Baton Rouge – 2

* Any death that is determined to have been caused as a result of Hurricane Katrina will be counted as a hurricane-related death. For example, this applies to people who drowned as well as people who required life-support but had it cut off and died as a result when power was lost during the storm.

3. Orleans parish deceased -- those go to St. Gabriel morgue.
So do those found in St. Bernard parish.

2. Yes, but how many deaths TOTAL.
Not just the ones that they determine to be hurricane deaths using whatever methods they think will best hide the dead the most efficiently.

4. Heard From A Health Professional Working in The Baton Rouge.....
area is that they've already gone through the first 10,000 body bags and started on their second.

This was relayed to me by a reputable source that talked to this health professional and a professional meeting last week.

Is there any way to verify this? Seems to me if the death toll were so high that just the amount of people involved with taking away the bodies - there would be no way to silence them. Or do health professionals and recovery teams have to take a oath of secrecy?

7. I take it with a huge grain of salt. How can they physically recover
10,000 bodies in a short time interval when the governor was complaining only last week of the slow recovery effort? When much of the city was still under water?
