10. the unbelievable thing
is that we're in the midst of a natural disaster recovery, uh, a war, a good old white house "we know it happened but we just can't PROVE IT" scandal or two, a deficit, a near oil crisis, and various and sundry other little issues that have of late become business as usual for this administration...

and this is the time to play everybody's favorite frickin card....

MORALITY and....SING THE EVER POPULAR REFRAIN

"WHAT ABOUT THE CHILDREN?!?!?...." (with a bouncy c)

and our new attorney general...

I guess we better hope he isn't considered for scotus.

2. but even the Fibbies think it's a joke!
Among friends and trusted colleagues, an experienced national security analyst said, "it's a running joke for us."

A few of the printable samples:

"Things I Don't Want On My Résumé, Volume Four."

"I already gave at home."

"Honestly, most of the guys would have to recuse themselves."

3. There will be no shortage of volunteers.
The real problem with the porn industry is that it's highly exploitative of the people who work in it. It's not a pleasant employee-employer relationship and often based on extremely unhealthy dominance on the part of the "owners." It's the type of thing you can't get away with in most businesses today.

If they want to limit this, they can look for all sorts of violations within the industry. I don't think "Boogie Nights" is that far off. What kind of job is it when you has to take HIV tests every 4-6 months.

Now, what's the FBI motivation here or are the orders coming from elsewhere? Is this the first step to be followed by political censorship (I mean more than just MSM)? Who is defining this for the FBI?

I love this FBI agent quote from the article:

"I guess this means we've won the war on terror," said one exasperated FBI agent, speaking on the condition of anonymity because poking fun at headquarters is not regarded as career-enhancing.

8. Sure take them away from the child pornography department.
They obviously have nothing to do.:sarcasm:

There are no laws about pornography that I am aware of are there? Maybe bestiality or when people or animals are hurt. Other than that didn't Larry Flint put the issue to rest?

11. There are plenty of archaic "obscenity" laws
There are postal regulations too. Porn companies wont ship to Alabama because of the possibility of prosecutions. They talked about this on that showtime show Family Business.

So that the most backward red-lousy cowpen city is going to set the "new" standard for adult porn. We'll all be wearing bloomers again, with these morons at the helm.

24. Nope. They will prosecute everyone from producers to retailers
on violations of 18 USC 2257. The law that says you have to verify and keep records that all performers are over 18.

There is a huge fight going on now between the industry and the DOJ. There are rules 18 USC 2257, which require producers to keep records on every performer that certify they are over 18. Notifications have to be on the box of the movie and in the movie itself.

These regs were hammered out in 95 and every company has been adhering to them ever since. There have been exactly 4 underage performers enter the business since. These underage performers provided false identification.

Even though the DOJ has always been able to audit these 2257 records, there has been not one inspection.

This year, the DOJ changed the rules - and backdated them to 95. Another huge court battle is in the works, and there is a preliminary injunction against the DOJ enforcing the new interpretation of the rules.

They changed the rules in stupid ways. For example, the new rules state that the full name of the custodian of records must be in the notice - If the notice on the movie says S. Orenstein, custodian of records, the movie is now illegal and anyone from the producer to distributor, to retailer who has it in stock can be charged under the law. They also changed the rules so that the notice has to be at the end of the movie instead of the beginning.

There is a new bill in congress now that allows seizure under RICO if you sell a non-compliant movie. So, even if the movie is Granny Gang Bang, I could be arrested, go to jail and have my store and all my assets stolen by the government if I sell it to an undercover agent - because the notice did not list the full name of the person who holds the records verifying that the obviously 60yo performers are over 18 - even if the actual records are in order.

Nice racket they have going, isn't it?

22. Well I think it is disgusting that they would even bother with these
laws when there is so much child pornography out there. I think their priorities should be taking care of the children.

I know some states have ridicules laws still on the books but that is no excuse to waste more money instead of putting where it really needs to be put.

19. not another "WAR"
Edited on Tue Sep-20-05 12:13 AM by antmanbee
There seems to be something about the mindset of alot of Americans where calling a repressive campaign a "WAR" gets them all on the samepage and foursquare behind the perpetrators of the repression. Better yet...name the head of the New agency after autocratic Despot.....CZAR...and they really got it going on. Better yet....pick a CZAR that looks like he spent too much time in boxing ring and have him say his scars are from strippers striking him with thier stilleto heels and he is Martyr for the Moral Crusade.
I post on Military.com and there is a bit of rightious sanctimonious energy there and I have to wonder what some of these people are like in real life. The sense I do get is that we are dealing with mean spirited sadists whose greatest joy is punishing people. Building prisons and punishing people ....that is what it is all about.
Enacting or resurrecting laws in order to throw people in the joint.
That is thier version of porn...that is what gets them excited.
I like the original version of porn better.

this is horrible what the chimp has done to this country. Every day brings another outrage....

Federal obscenity prosecutions, which have been out of style since Attorney General Edwin Meese III in the Reagan administration made pornography a signature issue in the 1980s, do "encounter many legal issues, including First Amendment claims," the FBI headquarters memo noted.
