Last week the Senate, on a straight party line vote, refused to appoint a special committee to investigate (Clinton resolution): "Motion To Suspend Paragraph 4, Rule XVI RE: Clinton Amdt. NO. 1660; To establish a congressional commission to examine the Federal, State, and local response to the devastation wrought by Hurricane Katrina in the Gulf Region of the United States especially in the States of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and other areas impacted in the aftermath and make immediate corrective measures to improve such responses in the future." Well today, the House Armed Services made it 4 for 4.

Does this mean any Plame investigation by the House is dead? Probably.

The House Armed Services Committee became the fourth House committee yesterday to adversely report a resolution of inquiry for an independent congressional inquiry of the Bush administration's role in the outing of CIA officer Valerie Plame. The Armed Services committee was the fourth congressional committee in recent days to vote down a resolution of inquiry regarding the Plame affair. The others have been the House Judiciary, International Relations, and Intelligence committees.

The earlier votes were along straight party lines. Armed Services rejected the resolution simply on a voice vote. The debate within the committee was over in a few short minutes. And no Democrat objected to voice vote-- instead of one for the record-- apparently because the outcome was all but preordained.

As for the Plame investigation, I'd just as soon hold out for the grand jury to finish their work.

But DU needs to know at each step of the procecss what has developed that day.

investigation by anyone but Fitzgerald. A congressional investigation might confer immunity on some of the perps and that will screw up any trial guilty verdicts for those perps.

No matter. I think Fitzgerald has things well in hand and his Grand Jury indictments will do much more damage than any freakin charade of an investigation that might go on in Congress.

purposely screw up whatever investigation these repubrobates undertake. I think it's better to let the Grand Jury deal with these criminals legally first.

Once the crimes come out in open court, then congress can safely deal with these criminals politically. I contend they will fall all over themselves to get their shots in before the 2006 elections.
