Is Rita Headed for Crawford?
If it is, what will Pat Robertson say? Could God have a reason to punish Houston, Crawford, Galveston, etc.?

1. No.
The areas East of the Dallas area look to be the most affected.

7. It's close enough to get hit by a pretty big storm!

I wouldn't completely write off the possilibity that Crawford will see some mighty big winds (besides the ones it usually sees).

20. Beating a dead horse.
Makes me think, W is afraid of horse. I'll bet he'd be good a beating dead horses. He's too afraid to go near a live one. :eyes:

4. Who cares? Think of every one of our fellow citizens Rita will affect
adversely. Many of whom will lose their lives and/or property.

I don't give a sh*t about stupid Bush or Crawford right now!

5. Last time I checked the NOAA Rita page
it was headed straight for Crawford, and will still be a tropical storm at that point.

Which I find damned hard to believe.

Can hurricanes hop over hundreds of miles of dry land to whump down on a pinpoint target?

Can we wish and hope?

13. Can't you guys take jokes? Where's your humor?
Also, one of the problems with DU is that you can't see what topics have been already covered by looking at the first page. I don't DU all day long, so I don't know what topics have been posted unless there is an obvious post on the first page. Is there something to be done about that? I'm not computer savvy enough to know.

Looks like it'll have >73mph sustained winds when it passes Austin on Saturday.

17. My humor
is on hold at the moment, thanks kindly. My brother is in the Houston area & because of the nature of his job, will not be evacuating. I have many friends, some of them DUers, who are either battening down the hatches or on the lam as I type.

Stop blaming the victims of the punchline of your sick "joke" for getting out of sorts about it. WE'RE the ones who have to deal with Rita & the consequences first hand while you get to sit back & yuck it up about making a "funny" over Rita hitting the pig farm.

18. Sorry if my graphic upset you
I understand how dangerous this storm is becoming and was certainly not trying to be funny.

I was attempting to point out to the the "Geography teachers" here that Rita is projected to maintain hurricane force winds far inland and long after she makes landfall.

Hope your brother and friends all remain safe.

it's the constant "ha ha, let's hope rita slams texas but good" posts that are wearing me down.

but thanks for the good thoughts about my brother & friends.

21. You know, not to get your hopes up, but the part of
Texas I lived in north of San Antonio, was sitting over an aquifer. This was a maze of limestone caves and many of them were under water. Those that were damp could become flooded under a bad storm resulting in any rivers, creeks or lakes becoming overflowing because those water works emptied into the caverns. Now I don't know if the phoney ranch is sitting on top of that kind of topography, but if it is a really good storm could flood it and make it pretty unlivable for a period of time.
