I've suddenly become depressed about Traitorgate

This may be just a passing down moment, but when I saw that article where McClellan said the leaker may never be found, my heart sank. I've been pretty upbeat about this scandal hurting Bush, but suddenly I'm worried nothing will ever come of it because the DOJ will drag this out and let the WH stonewall till the cows come home. I know Dems like Schumer are calling for an independent counsel, but why do I feel no one is paying attention?
It's so frustrating because the WH is obviously not cooperating, and they seem to be getting away with it. Can anyone cheer me up? :(

It ain't over by a long shot. The CIA is waiting for the right moment and gauging the WH response, waiting for recall madness to end then BAM! Be patient, these guys are the real pros.

They certainly seem to be willing to piss off (and on) the CIA. I don't know if I'd be so cavalier about that -- I hope you're right, Beetwasher, and it comes back to bite them in the ass.

Well, it is hurting him. I mean I know it might be nice to see him walking out to the helicopter in disgrace, but I think we'll have to settle for the victory of an election Next year. He's weak and getting weaker, and we have several strong candidates ready to go.

Plus that new Vanilla Pepsi is pretty tasty.

If the leak is never pinned on anyone (scapegoat), that leaves that cloud of suspicion over the whole administration.

Also, if Wilson brings a private suit, and if the CIA continues expressing its displeasure...don't expect it to go away because the WH decides not to cooperate and Ashcroft PROVES he's not competent to handle it...

Also, think of this as a basketball game. Our team isn't going to always be standing at our goal shooting free throws. Sometimes, the ball goes to the other end of the court and the other team gets a lay-up. But we eventually get the ball back and score a few points.

My point is that you really ought to look at the big picture. Focus on a single comment at any given time and you'll not only drive yourself crazy, but you'll never have a clear view of the big picture.

Do what you can to help the team and don't worry about each individual play.

Remember Nixon did not resign because of the break in. He resigned because he got caught covering it up.

So far the AWOL administration is following this script. I suspect though that this administration put safeguards in place long ago, because they knew that they would need them.

I say look at these guys. There is a reason they have been cleared this early. It is to take the heat off, so they slide down the memory hole early. They will then step up their investigation on the people that they know are not involved. The result is that this situation is "nothing".

They already have the conclusion of the investigation (and probably have had it for months), now they just need the facts to back it up. This is the way Republicans work.

They are trying to plant a seed... With Wilson and Johnson out in the public, I have some confidence that they are going to fight like hell to keep this story alive and not let the WH get away with this. Wilson...he is all over this and I have a tremendous amount of confidene in him to get the job done. He isn't going anywhere soon.

I was just getting impatient and that fueled my momentary fit of the doldrums. I know this isn't going away, and history shows stonewalling only delays the inevitable or creates the whole new problem of obstruction of justice (coverup).

You know, those guys surrounding Nixon were very smart people, smarter than Bushco, and they couldn't keep the truth from coming out. There's a Biblical verse, "your sin will find you out."

I gather you missed last Friday's Nightline. The show was contacted by a group of former CIA officers who said they wanted to come on and express their outrage at the leak and the Bush administration's reaction to it. It was great. The Nightline website has a recap on the show now (link: http://abcnews.go.com/sections/nightline/US/cia031006_leak.html).

One of the CIA officers said something that is not in the link. Larry Johnson, a very passionate and outspoken speaker, said that if Bush doesn't "call off the partisan dogs" more and more of them (CIA folks) are going to stand up as those guys (and gal) did.

This is NOT going to go away.
