Something to give you nightmares: A Freeper Prayer...
"Dear Heavenly Father, it is with great urgency that we come before You tonight, and plead with You, Almighty God, Creator of the Heavens and the Earth, that You might stretch out Your right hand, and deliver those whose lives are threatened by this great storm, Rita. We pray that You will save Your people from harm, and bring glory to Yourself in the coming hours. We pray for those who will risk their lives to save others and keep the peace, that they might be protected from the harm of wind and water. We pray that You might even, in Your sovereignty, still this storm, and calm the waves that are soon to assault once again, the Gulf Coast region. In this mighty force of nature and its devastation, we pray, dear Lord, that many might reassess their lives and their priorities, and understand that it is only in You that comfort and peace are found.
Father, we continue to pray for President Bush and the almost overwhelming difficulties he has had to deal with during his presidency. Lord, it is difficult to understand why he has had such a heavy burden to bear, but we know that You have promised not to give us any burden for which You do not also give us the strength to bear it, and we pray at this moment, that You would enfuse him with strength and courage to face this latest trial. We ask that You would cover him with Your love, and guard his heart against anything that would defeat him. Lighten his spirit, and keep him aware at every moment that he is being supported in prayer, and that You are with him. Help Laura to be a comfort and refuge to him as they serve the Lord, and this nation together.

We pray for our military in harm's way, dear Father, and ask that You protect each one of them. We thank You for their courage and strength, and ask that they might feel Your presence and calm in their midst. We pray for those who have been wounded; we pray for those who are lonely; we pray for those who are afraid. Meet the individual needs of each one of these fine sons and daughters of America, we pray. We entrust them in Your care.

And dear Lord, we also continue to pray for this great nation, which You have used to spread light and joy to dark corners of the world. We know, dear Father, that we have lost our way, but we also know that many among us seek to serve You and honor You with our lives. We ask that You might speak to and through us, that we might be a sweet fragrance to a world rank and needy. Help Your children who are offering their time and expertise and love to those stricken in the Gulf region to reflect Your divine love and mercy. We thank You for Your love for us, and ask that we might have the courage to share it with others, and we ask all these things in the glorious Name of Jesus, who is the Christ, Amen!"

1. Aren't we having a struggle against fundamentalism?
It seems to me that the patriotic thing to do for this person would involve harakiri.

3. Ah, well, there's nothing wrong...
... with wishing well. (And, let's face it--Bush needs all the well-wishing he can get--as big a fuck-up as he is, several bushel baskets of prayers won't help him as much as is necessary.)

There are a great many amateur preachers on Frrreeeepppp. I think this happens once or twice every night--there's an informal contest for the best sermon.

Hey, everybody should have a hobby.... :)

16. Yeah, that's the part that's really bothersome.
The rest of it wasn't that bad, as prayers go.

I thought maybe the freeper-petitioner was going to ask gawd to send the storm back to New Orleans to finish off those "po ignernt folks" who survived Katrina. :eyes:

Although, I don't understand, why is God asked to extend only His right hand?

Dear Creator, it is with great urgency that we come before You tonight, and ask You, Almighty God/dess, Creator of the Heavens and the Earth, that You might stretch out Your right hand, and deliver those whose lives are threatened by this great storm, Rita.

We pray that You will save all people from harm, and bring glory to the real heroes who help others in the coming hours. We pray for those who will risk their lives to save others and keep the peace, that they might be protected from the harm of wind and water.

We pray that You might even, in Your sovereignty, still this storm, and calm the waves that are soon to assault once again, the Gulf Coast region. In this mighty force of nature and its devastation, we pray, dear God/dess, that many might reassess their lives and their priorities, and understand that it is only in those You have created that comfort and peace are found.

Father/Mother, we continue to pray for President Bush and the almost overwhelming difficulties he has allowed to prevail because of his incompetency during his presidency. God/dess, it is difficult to understand why he has had such a heavy burden to bear, other than he is incompetent and refuses to do what his best for all Americans, but we know that You have promised not to give us any burden for which You do not also give us the strength to bear it, and we pray at this moment, that You would infuse him with wisdom and courage to face this latest trial, and finally admit he cannot lead our nation.

We ask that You would cover him with Your wisdom, and guard his heart against anything that would harden it, like his hateful administration. Awaken his spirit, and make him aware at every moment that he is being supported by liars and cheats, and that You are with him, despite his not being with his people, such as the poor and minorities. Help Laura to be a wise woman and teach him that they serve the this nation first.

We pray for our military in harm's way, dear Father/Mother, and ask that You protect each one of them and bring them home soon and not in coffins. We thank You for their courage and strength, and ask that they might feel Your presence and calm in their midst.

We pray for those who have been wounded; we pray for those who are lonely; we pray for those who are afraid. Meet the individual needs of each one of these fine sons and daughters of the world, we pray. We entrust them in Your care and in their sane and rational actions.

And dear God/dess, we also continue to pray for this great nation who has so much to give, yet turns away from the plights of the truly needy. We know, dear Father/Mother, that we have lost our way, but we also know that many among us who seek to serve Your ideals and honor Your blessings with our lives.

We ask that You might speak to and through us, and help us understand we are not perfect and do not have all the answers, nor are charged with re-creating the world, but that we might be a sweet fragrance to a world rank and needy, some of which we are responsible. Help Your children who are offering their time and expertise and love to those stricken in the Gulf region to reflect Your divine love and mercy, and to know that others see and view You in different ways and we should respect that.

We thank You for Your love for us, and ask that we might have the courage to share it with others, should they so ask, and we ask all these things in the glorious Name of Humanity, Amen!"

9. They pray to the deity that caused this in the first place......
so in essence they're saying that their god made a mistake and would he please reconsider and have mercy on those affected. If god is omnipotent and all knowing they should be thanking him for this hurricane because it's obviously part if his unknown master plan. They're questioning god's judgment?
The only god that exists is the one they've created in their minds. Since their minds aren't that well developed in the first place their god is pretty poorly constructed as well.
They create their own god then plead with him to do their bidding. When god doesn't do that they say it's god's will, we can never known his plan.
Religion truly is a very deep psychosis.

10. I really don't have a problem with people who believe praying to their God
Edited on Sat Sep-24-05 06:08 AM by mutley_r_us
It was a little nauseating to read the part about *, but at least they weren't calling for God to kill all liberals. This time. And they didn't single out the rich white people in the path of the hurricane, so I can give them credit for that.

12. Personally, I'm an atheist.
So, I just believe this is an unfortunate mix of normal weather cycles and global warming. But I try hard to respect other's religious beliefs; as long as they keep it out of the government.

13. Dear Heavenly Father-
I pray you will remove the scales from the eyes of this misguided brother or sister. Help him/her to understand that you are not responsible for the stolen elections of 2000 and 2004 nor the general criminal incompetence of this administration. I further beseech you to send this pious Freeper a divine clue that clearly says "Want Peace and Prosperity? Vote Democrat in 2006." Amen.

17. Gawd is the author of all things. Including hurricanes and freepers.
Seems to me the only Christian thing to do is to impeach God for sheer incompetance.

These people need to be examined by professionals. And no... They do not worship God. I believe they worship something evil.
