5. Nope.
You should read his open letter to impeach * if you haven't already.

It's on the site for his publishing company:

<http://www.percevalpress.com>

Lots of good progressive info there.

Impeach, Remove, Jail

In the often and rightly quoted words of Bill Clinton, "There's nothing wrong with America that can't be fixed by what's right with America." We see now how individuals and groups around the country continue to act in any way they can to help their fellow citizens in Louisiana, Mississippi and other devastated places near the Gulf of Mexico. They refuse to stand idly by and wait for President Bush and his morally-bankrupt, pirate administration to respond in an appropriately urgent and compassionate manner to the escalating agony and desperation of our fellow citizens.

As we know, this agony and desperation was caused in large part by a near complete absence of adequate federal government funding, preparedness, and leadership. We the people will continue to help Americans and non-Americans alike, with or without the participation or approval of George W. Bush and his Neo-Conservative cohorts.

While it is true that what is most important right now is to rescue, feed, house, and in any way possible care for those immediately affected by the disaster, it is equally true that in the long run those directly responsible for aggravating the tragic situation must be held accountable. The mounting evidence of the Bush administration's criminal mismanagement of the nation, as well as its consistently arrogant disregard for our planet's people and natural environments must be confronted immediately.

Those who voted for Bush last year, or who have continually supported his outlaw administration in its destructively dishonest conduct -- including not only extremist conservatives but also politically-calculating democrats -- need not hang their heads or avert their eyes now.

What they can and ought to do is join the increasing numbers of Americans who are demanding that impeachment proceedings be initiated as soon as possible.

Members of the Bush Administration responsible for the blatant lies and self-serving manipulations that have fanned the flames of disaster from Iraq to New Orleans must be prosecuted as our laws require. We must insist on this.

Furthermore, we must not allow these disgracefully unpatriotic public servants to be pardoned by any future president as Gerald Ford did for Richard Nixon.

Please call or write your government representatives and help get the scoundrels out of government and in prison where they belong. Do not allow the subject to be changed, do not be distracted.

The time to act is now. Take back your country.
- Viggo Mortensen.

edit- it was one paragraph on the website...I broke it up for easy reading.

24. I wasn't sure either.
It's not something you can really split up and post though so I didn't want to cut it down.

You are absolutely correct that it is just one, long paragraph on the site so it should be ok.

Glad to read it again.

3. Cool!
A friend of mine in DC just called and we talked about Viggo's interview on the Charlie Rose show. He said he'd heard it on the local NPR radio station and had to pull his car over just to listen. Was amazed at his intelligence, and calm replies.

I clued him in a bit on Viggo showing up at Camp Casey, unannounced, and without publicity.

8. Do you all know this link?
Edited on Mon Sep-26-05 10:22 PM by hopein08
http://www.interbridge.com/lineups.html#DS

It's the Late Night TV Page and lists all of the guests for a whole variety of shows. Just scroll around. I posted the Daily Show link. I know that it doesn't say the right thing for tonight (Mehlman) but the rest of the week seems to have the right guests according to the Comedy Central email that I got today.

Schumer Thursday and Edwards next Wednesday!!!

ON EDIT: Never mind about who's right and who's not. Apparently Comedy Central was wrong and my link was right! Oh well, maybe Mehlman got scared.

Gee -- George Clooney last week, and this week Va-va-va-Viggo! But as Jon Stewart said last week, eye candy with substance.

Hot diggity!

12. I caught part of his Charlie Rose appearance this morning
He's a remarkably effective speaker. This was my first time hearing, rather than reading, his commentary on the subjects of Iraq and Bush, and he really impressed me.

Rightwing attackers will be hard-pressed to dismiss him as a "typical Hollywood liberal" because he never flies off the handle and is always very articulate. Well done, Viggo.

Other than the kind of yucky rabbit part, but it was an accident.

Enjoy.

22. Knowing Viggo, he did a traditional Native American prayer over the poor
bunny. :D Remember the deer scene in the Last of the Mohicans? That is what I envision. Viggo seems to be a very "earthy" guy, don't ya think?

I accidentally ran over a rabbit one time. It jumped right out in front of me. I cried all the way home. I am very mushy when it comes to animals.

Can't wait to see him on TDS tonight. A lot of the time, I sort of hate when the comedy bits are over and the guest comes on so I am glad the interviews are short. This time, I wish the interview was longer!

25. Darn! I was hoping there might be a couple of minutes of political
discussion. Viggo has been so politically active since even before the "war."

Oh well, it was still great and how cool was it that Viggo had a tray of carved LOTR chocolate characters sent to "Stephen Colbert"?
I've heard quite a few stories like that about Viggo. I think he is genuinely a nice, down-to-earth guy.
