Does anybody , Republican or otherwise believe that if we win in Iraq
that Terrorism will have been defeated? Terrorism did not originate in Iraq nor will it end with Iraq so who is next. Where will our military be sent next to continue the unending war on terrorism. Maybe I am wrong and all terrorism will end with Saddam's trial but do Freepers believe that is the case? Is there an end and if so where exactly is that end? Are we really engaged in an unending war?

1. Well
The theory is sort of the reverse domino theory. If we "win" in Iraq, Iraq will become a modern, secular, successful Demcoracy. The key word is successful. If we succeed in Iraq and Afghanistan we will have presented to the middle east a model for progress, that we can encourage them to follow. They will then, eventually, become modern secular Democracies as well.

That's the theory, at any rate.

6. Governments based in any religion don't work well, unless you
define working well as subjugation of the masses. Probably has to do with forcing people's brains into some kind of psychotic disconnect. :hide:

7. Like GW does with his "base"
I am sensing a pattern. All you need to add is preferential treatment for Pat Robertson and James Dobson.... O wait that is already happening....

2. Yes, it is an unending war
and just so convenient for the arms dealers. Always a little action here and there, you know?

3. One of the goals was to create democracy in Iraq
For the time being they have settled on an Islam theocracy, which imo is step back from the secular socialist dictatorship that they had under Saddam.
But maybe the freeps are more opposed to secularism then to Islam fundamentalism...

12. There'll Always Be A Boogie Man
Look at the Repugnican playbook and it's always been focused on demonizing and stereotyping, then scaring the sheeple into believing in that fear and brainwashing them into believing only the Repugnican party can protect/save them from these evils.

Previously it was "Communist". It didn't matter if it was Russian or Chinese or Cuban or Ethiopian...it as a label of some massive global conspiracy that was determined to destroy America in every way possible. They were athiests who would burn churches, they were socialists who would steal all your money and rape your wimmen. It worked great on my generation...worked well on the Democrats as well.

When the Soviet Union fell under its own corruption and largess, the Communist evil was gone and forced the Repugnicans to find a new Boogie Man. They needed one they could use to conger up the same fears they did with the Commie...and they found it in Osama/Saddam..."Islamofascism" was born. All the stars were aligned to turn the old Commie chestnuts into ones against "Terrorists"...turn the stereotype from the Russian to the Bearded Muslim and here we are.

Even if the "terrorists" are rooted out of every Muslim country, another threat will surface. Eco-terrorists? Drug dealers (remember we're still "at war") with them...China?

The upshot is having a Boogie man helps keep the Repugnicans on a simple message and easy to control. It also works to the financial benefits of the powers-that-be in that party as defense contractors, oil companies and bankers crank up the war toys to "ease the fears".

Peace...
