Disturbing story about Rita evacuees
They brought a bus load of nursing home patients to one of our local nursing homes. Part of the deal was that the nursing home who sent these patients had to furnish the staff, because the nursing home here did not have the staff to handle the influx. Basically they cleared a hall for the evacuated residents so that the other nursing home could basically just operate from their halls with their own meds and records, etc.
One of the churches here opened up for the nursing home staff to stay. Local restaurants delivered free food...the mayor went to the local radio station and asked for people to bring stuff for these nurses and aides to eat. We took some water and snacks up there on Saturday before the rain got bad.
Apparently, the nursing home that sent these patients had to pay their employees a tidy little sum (deservedly so) in advance for them to come up here and commit to working.
Now, the nurses aides have all left and took their money. Nobody can find them, and the patients are left without caregivers.
The nursing home here that wasn't staffed, now has to stretch their staff thin to take care of these other patients.
I don't know what you all think, but I think that was a shitty thing to do.

1. I agree, but would like more informatino about the nature of...
the agreement between the NAs and the owners of the evacuated nursing home. NAs usually don't abandon their charges, so I am suspicious of what instructions they (the NAs) may have been given. Color me cynical on anything that concerns money.

2. This info just came from a nurse that works at the actual nursing home
I'm not privvy to anything else.
It seems to me they would have been better off to try to hire agency nurses aids up here than to pay someone in advance, but maybe they just wanted to give their employees a chance to make the cash. Who knows.

3. I'd have to hear more details before I'd blame the aides.

Lots of times they are expected to do what is humanly impossible and for next to nothing.
