1. Last I heard, the judge is leaning towards NOT releasing them.
I guess he bought the government's contention that they are too inflammatory.

2. Inflamatory = Guilty of Torture
If the pictures are that horrific, then they are in all probability evidence of contravention of the Geneva Accords.

All the more reason to release them, just release them slightly redacted to protect the identities of the tortured.

3. I have been tracking this pretty closely over the last month and...
...the last news release was on or about August 31st when judge Hllerstein talked about being reluctant to release the pictures. There are a few threads where this has been posted- most notably one I wrote titled "What the hell is judge Hellerstein doing?" (search for Hellerstein), but I can't bring it up on an advanced search because its disabled currently.

However, there has been nothing out of Hellerstein's office since. I contacted his clerk via telephone and she gave me the impression that she couldn't end the call fast enough for her tastes- I'm probably not the only one more than curious about this matter. No information at all was gleaned from the call to his clerk, btw.

Interestingly, though, the day that the government rested it's arguments last month is the day that Hellerstein posted new rules for himself (judges each have different ways of doing things and usually post those rules outside the courtroom)- they appeared to greatly reduce the government's abilities to try to classify material as secret willy-nilly.

All these things are documented more thoroughly in the threads I posted. Search for Hellerstein when advanced search comes back and you'll find them.
