FReeper: there was only 15,000 at anti-war rally
:eyes:

I was there. I would say 250,000 at least. It was enormous.

Anyone else want to dispute this nonsense from a person obviously nowhere near DC on Sat?

To: softwarecreator
I read 15,000 for the haters. Which seems more like a possibility.

But .. they were expecting 100,000 - and only got 15,000 - I'd say their "movement" isn't going anywhere.

1. Why not link him to some of the photos of the event?
They would, in my mind, dispute his contention.

She also said something to the effect of, "I don't know where they get these numbers, 100,000. I don't know where these polls are, people who are against the war. I don't know who they're asking, and I don't believe it."

:eyes:

Oh, and I forgot to add this... the live studio audience broke out into raucous applause when she said that.

11. I did a calculation

based on the photo of the event and google planimeter. I measured
the area covered by the sea of people and found that it was almost
11 acres in size. I did not account for people trailing down
constitution avenue. Using even conservative numbers for the space
occupied by an individual, it's still comes out to 235,000.

35. Could be... depends on how much room between people

people don't mind standing next to each other, often using less than
1 foot of "linear" space, but they do have issues with people
standing right in front of them (too close here and you feel
"trapped"). So it is natural to leave more than a foot or more.
I used 2 sq ft per person, but it could be as much as 3 sq feet.
The rest of the calculations are explained here:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=4892697&mesg_id=4892697

but I also didn't take into account the people crowded down
constitution avenue.

I think an estimate of 200,000 is not far off, and it could be as
much as 250,000. Certainly more than 100,000.

Pictures are here:

http://www.brainshrub.com/adventures/dcpeacemarch2005

While I don't have an aerial photo, it does show the scope of the crowd. As an added bonus, the Freeper will get to read the comments next to the pictures, such as:

It isn't that Americans are less patriotic today, it's just that the Iraqi War isn't worth personal sacrifice, unless you are working to END the conflict.

This is why the Peace Marches are so huge, and the pro-war marches only get a few dozen people.

IMHO, the Freeper knows there were more than 15,000 people. By denying that such a crowd existed, he is bullying you. I wouldn't dignify his claims with an answer.

The way cowardly conservatives like to fight is by muddying the waters with lies. Rather than tackle the implications of 150,000+ people in DC marching for peace, they prefer to quibble about something they know is false... just to make you mad.

Ignore them. Conservatism is destined for the dust-bin of history. Within 10 years, todays Republicans will be ashamed to admit who they voted and supported in 2000 and 2004... in much the way older Germans are ashamed of supporting the fascists.

23. great quote
the reason most Americans don't go to pro-war rallies is because they only accepted Iraq as a nessecity (WMDs, Al-Q), something the majority now rejects in the face of revelation after revelation about Bush's duplicity

Very few actually celebrated and wished for a new war and very few are going to go to a rally to cheer more of it

Even we were to humor them and say there were only 15,000 of us . . . guess what Freepazoids, that means you had 2% of your projected attendance, and we had 15%.

Of course we all know the 15,000 number is off by a factor of 20, but regardless, even using their bullshit number, we would have exceeded their ration of estimated to actual attendance by a factor of more than 7.

So shove that in your crack-pipe and smoke it Freeper.

There was an easy 300,000.

By ALL accounts, even those that always underreport, at least 100,000 were in attendance. Most others put the total in DC between 300,000 to 500,000.

"..."movement" isn't going anywhere..."? Surely, you jest. Not only is the "movement" going somewhere, it's already arrived, bought property, raising kids and now running for city council. Welcome to reality.

Poor wittle babies.

There is only ONE thing you can do when you run into a freeper. Laugh in his face. Here is someone who is not really persecuted but who acts like he is persecuted by everyone. Here is someone who can't use congenital brain deformity as a reason for being butt damn stupid - they choose to be. Here is someone who is mean to the bone, who would drive past you dying in the desert in his Hummer, get out, get a some water out of the truck, take a swig, and spit on your back.

Laugh at them, they deserve it, and they hate being laughed at more than anything in the entire world. More than anything they want to be powerful, to feel powerful and important, so just laugh at them. They really deserve it.

documented in a variety of ways, then they wil never accept the truth about anything. Their programming is complete and irreversible. Their challenging of reality hurts their veracity on all other issues. If they will openingly lie about uncontestable facts, then their opinions on everything else are suspect. They lose.

Edited on Tue Sep-27-05 12:58 PM by EstimatedProphet
That number could only come from someone who wasn't there which means it's wrong from the start. If you weren't there you can say anything and it's equally accurate, because you don't know what the f*ck you're talking about freeper.
The Ellipse was wall-to-wall people, with a ton of people visible around the monument.
We saw people in Tenleytown!
We saw people in south Alexandria! there were people wandering all over the city afterwards, and that doesn't happen with 15,000 people!
On edit: by the way freeper, we're nnot the haters. You are. You're the racists and fascists, you say so openly.

54. Freeper counting reminds me of a story of nine brothers who went fishing
and their boat capsized.

After making it to shore, one counted his brothers and came up with only 8. Each brother, in disbelief, also repeated the count of his brothers and came up with 8.

As they sat there wailing, lamenting their lost brother, a small child came up to them. After being told of their lost brother, the child took them by the hand and counted them off, thereby showing them that they did not lose one brother, that, in fact, there were nine there.

They all suddenly were rejoicing . . .
