Slidell, located a few miles northeast of New Orleans is the major east-west artery to St Bernard Parish. The interstate bridge across Lake Pontchartrain is out of commission and all traffic is being funneled to an old two lane bridge which parallels the interstate. The traffic has to go through town. Slidell traffic is horrendous on a good day. The temperature is hot, traffic is slow and tempers are short.
He used to be Chief of Police. I think he's about 400 years old. The Parrish Sherrif is a pretty sharp professional. The population is booming on a daily basis and the traffic deviations is just killing the town.
FEMA is putting their little travel trailers along the north edge of Slidell to house evacuees until FEMA gets around to rebuilding their homes. People along the north of the lake are saying that FEMA plana to move all the poor out of New Orleans to north of the Lake, in trailers, and just leave them there.
