I think that the Democrats should join the Katrina committee
Clearly it did not try to cover up anything or anyone and it should be a united dommittee. On the other hand, I do consider Republican Congressman from the North East or from the Midwest to be a different breed than the southerns windbags like Gingrich, Lott, DeLay, Frist and the puzzlophile - what was his name, from Oklahoma who was sobbing while talking to Roberts?

1. What do we do when we want to call a damning witness against
FEMA or BushCo and the Republicans refuse to allow it? There is no way they will let it be fair.

3. So far, they seem OK. Also, Gov. Blanco is expected to appear
would be nice if she will face some friendly or, at least, not hostile, faces.

with Louise Slaughter(sp?), and 2 other congressmen..one from Jersey and the other was on the committee of Homeland Security. They made very valid reasons for why they felt the need for an independent commission and i really can't blame them for abstaining from a sham. While it may look good...having a few republicans rip Browney...it leaves behind what this administration and congress are doing to our government agencys. The republicans will never allow truly harmful material to see the light of day.

5. We need an Independent Commission or else we can never believe
anything they say.

Trusting these Republicans is foolish IMO. Delay, Hastert, etc. have whipped these guys into line too many times to think they will act independently - it isn't going to happen.

I think we need to get more of the Congresspeople from the afflicted areas to attend - Dems from LA, Mississippi, Alabama, Texas (Rita) - and quiz the witnesses.
