PLEASE STAY FOCUSED
Edited on Wed Sep-28-05 01:40 PM by paineinthearse
So little Tommy Delay has been indicted. Great! It's been a long time coming. I'm as pleased as anyone else here but observe...

1. As soon as the post hit LBN and was placed on the home page, we went to category 2, then 3.
2. There are scores of new Delay-related posts.

Let's take a few minutes to celebrate, then consider

A. How do we counter the inevitable spin?
B. Where is the best place to discuss developments and strategies (remember the ideas floated by NWH and myself for a dedicated forum for the "topic du jour")?
C. Stay focused on all the important issues we have been working on.

I submit this blog entry by John Conyers to remind us to stay focused. It was written at the time of *'s hasty nomination of Roberts, but read it in its larger context, that * will put the spin machine into gear to use Delay to distract us from the larger issues of "...corruption and deception in the White House, by continuing our examinations of Rovegate, Downing Street, and the ongoing deception in Iraq...".

Lesson One: Do not be Distracted

As predicted in this blog, the White House scrambled today to change the subject with a hasty prime time announcement of a Supreme Court nominee. Its early in the process, but based on what I have seen, John Roberts could prove to be a real threat to civil rights, reproductive rights, privacy, separation of church and state, and the environment. Let me know your thoughts if you get a chance.

But the important lesson is that we not let the Supreme Court announcment distract us from the ongoing struggle to root out corruption and deception in the White House, by continuing our examinations of Rovegate, Downing Street, and the ongoing deception in Iraq.

<snip>

I for one will not be distracted. We have learned all to well that this Administration can and will manipulate the media to its advantage. However, its absolutely critical that we continue our work.

2. Countering the spin
If anyone says it was a partisan DA who indicted DeLay, kindly remind him it was a group of ordinary citizens serving on the Grand Jury that indicted him. Ask if they know how a GJ works-that the jurors may ask questions, and that they must be convinced by the evidence, and the evidence alone, to bring down an indictment.

3. Excellent point
I had the honor of serving on a GJ a couple years ago, it was a very educational and eye-opening 3 months.

5. Also point out the fact that only 3 out of 13 GJ enpannelments (sp)
by this prosecutor were for Republican office holders - the rest were Democrats.

7. You might also remind them that Ronnie Earle has...
...indicted more Democrats than Republicans and that Bill O'Reilly called him one of America's most innovative prosecutors (meaning it as a compliment).

8. Would someone care to bring up DeLay's war on American garment workers?
Just Google "DeLay" and "Saipan" and see what you come up with.

11. "It's like my Galapagos Island."
Wow, thanks for reminding us of this connection. So DeLay loves this Marianas sweatshop because it's a "petri dish" for his cruel Social Darwinist theories.

9. The 'topic du jour' idea
was a great one -- I suggested it too! To consolidate the numerous threads that pop up on a single frenzied subject.

10. I Agree
WE'VE GOT 'EM ON THE RUN NOW BOYS(AND GIRLS)!!!

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE HAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!

Sorry but I am still high from DC. How energizing.

63% want troops home, 150,000+ this weekend, DeLay Indictment, Frist is in trouble, *'s poll numbers........it's FINALLY happening but we can't let Rove "Judo" us with our momentum. This is the perfect opportunity for a Rathering.

Truth is an effective weapon, and can only be wielded effectively by the righteous. The DeLay indictment better be good, and if it doesn't lead to a conviction or at least a plea deal the * PR machine will spin it as persecution not prosecution.....

FOCUS Grasshopper.......

12. With that. It's only one indictment, people.
And it isn't the one I wanted for today, so--focus, focus, focus. And please, let's not get EVEN MORE distracted from the DSM, Cindy's situation, the unsustainable deficits and the ten other top priority issues for Dem activists.

13. here's some big picture related to DeLay
According to Randi and DuBose, the funds filtered through the PAC came from a lot of out of state corporate donors.... basically to play with DeLAy you have to contribute to this PAC.... So in essence, the $s provided to Texas Congressional Candidates is coming from a lot of out of state corporations.... we can't beat that if we want our guys to abide by laws....

19. Kick and a common theme as mnemonic device
Today Ranti Rhodes was talking about the Texas law that snagged DeLay:

"That's basically the only campaign finance law they have in Texas. It's from the days of the ROBBER BARONS cuz they were buyin up the Le-gis-lay-tcha."

Are all these "distractions" various forms of ROBBER BARONS have hijacked the United States of America?

:kick:

If this were a chess game, Delay would be off the table. It's time to go after the knight Frist.
