Stupidest. Email. Ever.
A dear friend sent me this tripe today...

Guys please be careful and aware of your surroundings....

Most of you know we have a family restaurant in which I worked last
night.

We had a lot of people from New Orleans come and buy food. I did not realize how many people were here already. On the way here I was listening to the Radio and they were saying that a woman called in and said she saw her brother who had 2 life sentences for 7 murders on the street.

Then my friend Robert (who went down about 2 weeks ago to visit
his brother in prison for stabbing his lawyer in the neck just 1 month ago) stopped by the restaurant to say he was okay. The problem was he had his brother in the car with him.

So please be careful, who you talk to at the restaurants, in the stores, anywhere. Prisoners did es cape, and these men have no ID, they are in a new city where no one can identify them and so far they don't exist because so many people are missing, or dead. So pleasseeee be careful.

6. Interesting choice for your second post...
most people here like to get settled in and join in a few discussions before writing a critical, no-content post like yours here.

But, hey, welcome to DU anyway.

Sid

7. Sure sounds like urban myth to me.
Was this something a personal friend, whose veracity you can vouch for, sent you? Or was it some kind of a mass mailing?

I was in Tulsa last weekend (I live in Kansas) and at my hotel there were some evacuees from Houston. Of course, these were people who had the cars and the financial wherewithal to stay at a Holiday Inn Express in Tulsa, but they certainly seemed like perfectly nice people to me.

Considering the large number of people posting to forums and weblogs about "My friend Robert" (they ALL have a friend name Robert whose brother is a convicted felon? Robert sure has a lot of friends!), I'd call it an outright LIE.

From the August 18, 2000, AP Newswire on KXTV10 ...

Olivehurst Man Gets Attorney After Attempts to Defend Self in Court Falter

(Yuba City-AP) -- A former Olivehurst resident on trial for stabbing his lawyer during a jail interview last year has been assigned another attorney.

William Goehler had been defending himself during the three-day-old attempted murder trial, but was assigned a new attorney after asking for help.

Goehler is accused of stabbing Michael Sullinger in May 1999 with a metal shank he fashioned from the bindings of law manuals from the jail library.

Sutter County Judge Robert Damron appointed Jud Waggoman to take over the case. Goehler had been representing himself in court for 10 months.

Waggoman was present during many of Goehler's court hearings but still asked to delay the trial to have time to talk with his client. Damron denied that request.
