Shit... meet fan - more torture photos to be released

Now shit's really going to hit the fan

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050929/ap_on_re_us/detainee_records

After Rummy testified on the Hill about Abu Ghraib, there was rumblings of more photos and video in the Pentagon's custody that was more horrific than anything made public.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/3695897.stm

"If these are released to the public, obviously it's going to make matters worse," Rumsfeld said.

More from Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld:

First, beyond abuse of prisoners, there are other photos that depict incidents of physical violence toward prisoners, acts that can only be described as blatantly sadistic, cruel, and inhuman.

If Seymour Hersh is right, it all gets much worse...

"Some of the worst things that happened you don't know about, okay? Videos, um, there are women there. Some of you may have read that they were passing letters out, communications out to their men. This is at Abu Ghraib ... The women were passing messages out saying 'Please come and kill me, because of what's happened' and basically what happened is that those women who were arrested with young boys, children in cases that have been recorded. The boys were sodomized with the cameras rolling. And the worst above all of that is the soundtrack of the boys shrieking that your government has. They are in total terror. It's going to come out."

Not to mention Republican Senator Lindsay Graham:

"The American public needs to understand, we're talking about rape and murder here. We're not just talking about giving people a humiliating experience. We're talking about rape and murder and some very serious charges."

This could get very ugly.

2. From what I read, earlier, Pentagon attorneys have 20 days to appeal.
If they do, we may never see those pictures.

3. This will go to the Supreme Court
if they take the case.

At the least, the Pentagon will appeal this. We won't see the pics for a while. I'm not particularly interested in seeing these pics, but it's very important for a democracy that it remains transparent. They should definetely be released.

4. I can't believe the argument the brush administration is using
to suppress these photos. They are saying that releasing these photos will fuel the terrorists. But just doing the torture stirred them up to begin with. Didn't they think when they were torturing those poor people that it would only make their determination to fight back even stronger? The nasty deed has already been done. Releasing the photos will only wake up the American people and that is one thing brush doesn't want.

This is why you don't torture. Because it fuels and energizes those you are fighting. Suppressing photos after the fact only keeps it hidden from US.

6. Most of the photos have already been heavily "censored" out of existence
If any of them ever get released they won't amount to much.

9. I remember when this was first reported over two hundred photos were ...
...reported to be in existence and not released. Now they are being described as dozens of photos. I think the number is about 80 or so they are fighting over now. The photo collection has somehow shrunk. I am sure others remember.

10. Will these be the rape and murder images?
Edited on Fri Sep-30-05 09:42 AM by Voice1
Anyone else remember that Lindsey Graham was referring to, when he said " The American public needs to understand we're talking about rape and murder here. We're not just talking about giving people a humiliating experience."

Are these images the ones he was referring to does anyone know?

I meant to add as well, some senior Bush regime officials should have already been put on trial by now, for what we already know about the sick and twisted abuse and torture carried out.

12. The right wing nuts always have two contradictory arguments on this
First, they say the photos are just examples of friendly "frat house hazing" and that no permanent harm has come to the butt pyramid building blocks.

But then from the other side of their mouths, the psychopaths say that release of more photos will cause more Americans to be killed by Iraqis.

How could pictures of friendly fun-loving nostalgic fraternity hazing cause the Iraqis to want to kill Americans? I wonder if Rush Limbaugh will have the nerve to say: "It's just fun-loving hijinks folks, like fraternity hazing. But we still don't want them released because it will put our troops at risk."
