Bigotry strolls in the front door at churches this Sunday
Edited on Fri Sep-30-05 11:52 AM by Zenlitened
Pastors, priests and assorted so-called holy men will be gathering signatures to put an anti-gay referendum on the ballot in Massachusetts:

Gay-nuptial foes hire Calif. consulting firm
Petition efforts raise eyebrows

By Scott Helman and Frank Phillips, Boston Globe Staff | September 30, 2005

Opponents of gay marriage, while looking ahead to a weekend of signature-gathering, have hired a California political consulting firm that's a veteran of conservative causes. The effort would be to help collect petitions to get a proposed ban on same-sex marriage on the 2008 ballot.

(snip)

Opponents of gay marriage plan to gather thousands of signatures this weekend at ''Protect Marriage Sunday," a coordinated effort by the Roman Catholic Church, Protestant congregations, and others to get as many names they can Sunday at worship services throughout Massachusetts.

The petition drive is in full force in places, and some Massachusetts residents are reporting what they're calling deceptive practices by signature-gatherers.

Lara Szent-Gyorgyi said she was returning items Saturday at Wal-Mart in Natick when she noticed someone outside the store gathering names for a separate ballot initiative, one that would allow the sale of wine in supermarkets. Szent-Gyorgyi said she had signed, and had then been asked to sign a few other petitions, but she said she had not been told what they were for. One was the gay-marriage petition.

Selling their shit with deception and lies, as usual.

1. getting petition sigs through deception
that's a great way to get it struck from the ballot.

I hope they keep up the good work - deceive as many people as possible and then we'll call for an audit of the petition.

9. If they feel the need to meddle in politics then their tax exempt status
should be taken away.

End of Story!

Homophobic assholes!

It shows that people don't support their petition without manipulation. Same-sex unions is about the law and not religion. Even I know that and I'm a Christian. I have no problem with gay couples being recognized by the law since that is what the battle is about. All these conservative groups are making it out about religion when it has nothing to do with religion. The sooner these people realize that the sooner we can move on to more important things like say having a job.

4. Check out the Massachusetts forum; someone posted recently
that a guy from the North Shore is going to put everyone's name that signs the petition on the internet.

Good. I hope he does. Then I'll know if I live near bigots.

Plus, it may stop more than a few from signing if they think their name is going to appear "on the internet"

On a side note,my in-laws are so used to ass kissing and brown nosing their parish priests that I have a bet with my husband that his relatives will be holding the clipboards with the signatures. He doesn't think they'll go that far but he does expect to see 99% of his relatives names "on the internet". I told him if I see any of his relatives names appear to expect me to get into a heated discussion with them if I ever run into to them around town.

5. Why the 2008 ballot? So they can make it a presidential issue.

6. 2 pastors were just removed in mass.
because they refused to do the petition drive at their mass this sunday.... so the bishop removed them, and wiLL say mass instead.

i think in order to get that crispity, crunchity, styrofoamy wafer, you have to sign the petition. :puke:

13. Disgusting!
Can't the ACLU or someone do something about that? All they did was refuse to not particpate in that.

11. Can't they get these people for doing that?
I just read the part about that. Talk about being Christian eh? They can only ge their agenda(s) done by lying and cheating or brainwashing. Last time I looked those weren't very good things in my Bible.
