Arianna says that Fitz is planning on extending the grand jury
"Was Miller’s sudden eagerness to find a get-out-of-jail excuse prompted by Fitzgerald’s planning to ask for an extension of the grand jury?"

4. Duh, could it be she is covering up for Operation Mockingbird ?
The CIA media manipulation program that is now decades old and clearly a domestic operation and illegal under the CIA's charter.

The NYTime's credibility is shot. RIP.

I'm getting my seat ready...

(I think Judy may be going down. Or else she's trying to float & breathe right now)

Let's hope Fitzgerald reels in the big ones!

3. I am NOT buying the NYT bull about the waiver she got...
and Huffington is right, what is she hiding? I think it's not about protecting the 1st Amendment so much as it is about protecting Cheney's aluminum tube selling self.

5. Let's hope she's right: This will take a long time, to out all the
corruption. This house of cards is falling. All at once. There's no other way for it to fall.

24. Yes for sure
I've always had a feeling if one of them falls the rest of them do. They all work together and have dirt on each other etc. These people don't like to go down a lone. Eventually it will lead back to Bush since that is who they work for.

9. I thought that Fitzgerald told the judge before Miller went to jail
that his case was wrapped up. He was only waiting for Cooper and Miller's testimonies. I certainly am tired of waiting.

13. JUDITH WAS BEING HELD FOR CIVIL CONTEMPT
fITZGERALD MADE IT CLEAR HE WAS GOING OR HAD GONE TO THE JUDGE TO ASK FOR CRIMINAL CONTEMPT FOR JUDY JUDY JUDY... he could only get criminal contempt if someone was indicted...

i have a feeling Fitzgerald went to ole judy and told her he has an indictement and he would be flipping her to criminal contempt..under criminal contempt i believe..a lawyer would know better than me..but i believe under criminal contempt he could keep her in a real prison for as long as it takes for her to testify..forever i believe if she doesn't testify...its like she becomes an accessory to the crime..so she would be held indefinitely..but she would be moved from jail to a real prison!

and from something i read somewhere sorry i can't find it..but from what i read evidently fitzgerald already went to the judge and got him to agree to criminal contempt...

now when judy was put into jail she said bascially that this was the government and she was afraid..

so could her deal with fitzgerald be for protection?? i wonder...

and who knows..she may have been bugged when bolton came to see her...we just won't know until the grand jury comes down with the indictments...

but judy judy judy was not in jail to stand for the first amendment..she went to jail to protect her own neck...in any way nessesary...
remember she was the last to communicate with Dr. David Kelly before he was Killed.....she knows what these guys do to those who squeal!

suicide!!

17. I Believe You Are Correct
Edited on Sat Oct-01-05 01:16 PM by Beetwasher
Fitz threatened her w/ criminal contempt (the stick) and offered her protection and immunity for her crimes (the carrot). She was protecting her own ass, that's why she wouldn't testify, and it explains the discrepancy regarding what she says about protecting her source, and what Libby says about her already having be released from having to protect him.

Also note that it's interesting that Libby is NOT backing up her story about her being in jail to protect her source (him). This is interesting because it would indicate that they may NOT be in collusion, otherwise, why wouldn't he back her up by at least saying "no comment". He's outright contradicting her cover story of being in prison to protect her source.

18. Yes, and I remember
reading that the last judge did not want to put her in jail, but did so AFTER Fitzgerald showed him papers which were not seen by anyone but the judge.

AIRC, the judge stated that what he had read overrode his normal concerns about violating the right of a journalist to protect his/her sources, because it was a matter of a crime so big it affected our national security. I know I'm not getting the words right, but this judge apparently never did this before.

I wonder what Fitzgerald showed him?

19. That's True, And I Believe It Was Even More Than One Judge
Edited on Sat Oct-01-05 01:26 PM by Beetwasher
They said something to the effect that the severity of the crime and it's consequences made themm waive what caution they would normally apply before sending a reporter to jail for something like this.

It's my theory that operatives in the field lost their lives as a result of the leak.

confidentiality is purely blowing smoke. She was in jail because confidentiality of sources didn't apply.

impression that * could fire him then, replace him, or stop the extension. This would NOT be good if this happens, am I correct or wrong about this?

14. actually he is pretty much protected ..
only his direct boss can stop his grand jury...his former boss had it tied tight ...he ws a smart cookie..and had fitzgerald protected pretty darned tight...now his new boss we don't know about..he was put in place by * but fitz's former boass had it tied so tight i don't think the new boss can do very much to stop this investigation and grand jury...

16. Actually, I Think That Was Just A THREAT To Get Miller To Talk
Fitz threatened her with criminal contempt and told her he'd extend the GJ until she talked, and then sweetened the deal by offering her immunity for her crimes.

26. That's My Thinking
Though, it's possible it was a real threat with conviction to actually follow through. It depends on how crucial Fitz thought Miller's testimony was. If it was very crucial, a real threat, if it wasn't as crucial, probably just a bluff.
