I've never understood why * can't just call people by their given names. The nicknames seem pretty childish and demeaning.

That's the point. People are bullied by him into buying the idea that it's "cute" that he does it, but it's a demeaning, belittling tactic.

(I had a boss who did that. Hated it.)

5. Yeah, for some reason "lump in the bed" didn't make it on the list,

but then again, neither did "pickles." I agree with you and Lindsay about it being childish and demeaning behavior, particularly when used by someone in a position of power over those he's characterizing.
