The one and only apparent industry in that part of the state is tourism and fishing related activities. We would have none of that with oil derricks everywhere.

5. We fended them off once before
in the early 90s I think (can't recall, 'xactly)

But I really don't want derricks visisble from Wilmington or Hatteras. The OBX are vulnerable as it is.

Edwards aside, North Carolina has sent some of the most ardent anti-environmentalists to represent them in Washington. These people don't give a shit about anyone else's environment (or in the case of corporate hog farming- their own).

The cities have some of the worst sprawl and poorest public transit that I've seen anywhere.

Maybe a little quid pro quo will shake some sense into people (though having spent a lot of time there over the years- I sort of doubt it).

11. All I'm saying is that the people seem to want this sort of thing
and have no problem carrying out policies that waste oil in their neck of the woods- and cause major environmental damage in other parts of the country.

Seems to me, that's the crux of the issue- and maybe it's time it hit home.

14. Sure! What Makes Them So Special?
Its OK in the Gulf, off Florida's west coast, California, or Texas, but not North Carolina? How come?

By the way, I have a place in Kill Devil Hills, but to hell with it. There is nothing sacred about North Carolina's beaches. If we want the oil there is a price and the price is oil drilling. I for one and willing to pay it. If you are not then get rid of your car.

It's just drill, drill, drill.

We should all be demanding wind and tidal energy to be developed, not drilling for more oil!

17. It shouldn't have been allowed in ANWR,
and It's not pretty in any of the Gulf States. But I happen to think that drilling on the Atlantic side of the East Coast is pure stupid and an invitation for an environmental disaster.
