Can We Get Rid of A Supreme Court Judge?

Impeachment? I don't know the system obviously, but John Roberts and whomever Bush appoints, need to be removed. Bush is not qualified to appoint anybody.

3. Well, the far right kept calling for the impeachment of Earl Warren

So it must be possible, but quite difficult.

Anybody know the procedure?

(If it involves 2/3rds votes in Congress, we can assume it ain't happening...)

6. Gerald Ford (as a congressman) spearheaded calls for the

removal of Justice Douglas. One of the grounds suggested for impeachment was his having MARRIED a young woman.

just like the exceutive you can impeach a judge for high crimes and misdemeanors....

Now proving those is extremely hard, and iirc no judge has ever been impeached... presdidetns, we have two... (and one of them was BS and he was not convincted by the Senate either)

of a SC justice named Samuel Chase circa 1804. He was impeached by the house but acquitted by the Senate.

Not very high if he is a democrat such as Justice William O. Douglas. See my post #6 above.

only if he or she fails to exhibit "good behavior".

There's no mechanism for removing him short of that - saying Bush isn't qualified to appoint anyone won't fly. Roberts' nomination and confirmation were perfectly legal and constitutional.

It is clear this judge was put in by Bush just to scuttle Roe v. Wade. I mean, the guy hasn't been a federal judge but two stinkin' years, and was never even on the Supreme Court until he was made *Chief* Justice just now! That's like moving a kid from a tricycle to driving a city bus.

I wonder if Scalia and Thomas are going to be pissed off now that they were leapfrogged for this position. They've been on the court far longer than Laughing Boy has even been a federal judge. Bush jilted them and I wonder if that's going to make them less eager to side with him.

But if good dreams rely upon Scalia and Thomas, it will be a nightmare. Even my most conservative law profesors thought Scalia was an idiot. Thomas? Good God, the guy is insane.

I'm afraid we can kiss the Bill of Rights goodbye as the corporate / police state seks to reduce individual liberties while empowering the central government.
