Rock Musician Claims White House Has Banned His Song
PHILADELPHIA/EWORLDWIRE/Oct. 3, 2005 --- Jets, is an anti-Bush, anti-war rock anthem by Mick Star (www.mickeystar.com) that features sound clips from actual Bush speeches combined with music and lyrics. It is rumored that the song has been bannned from American radio as a result of tactics employed by the Bush administration to withhold funding from private, public and college radio stations that play the song.

Jets is about the U.S. Air Force C-120 transport jets that land at Dover Air Force Base in Dover, Del., bearing the bodies of American soldiers killed in Iraq. Throughout the Iraq War, the Bush administration has effectively barred photographs and news stories about the Dover Air Force Base Mortuary and Iraq War casualties.

It comes as no surprise that the Bush administration is able to maintain its Rovian grip on Star and Jets. It is also rumored that American record producers, record companies and bands touring in America have been instructed to honor the blacklisting of Mick Star and Jets, or they too will be placed on the same "banned on American radio" blacklist.

1. Er, could be that it's just a guy nobody's ever heard of anyway...
The song isn't exactly radio-friendly.

2. I don't know about this...
While I'm all up for getting righteously indignant over anything like this, it seems like a pretty blatant attempt by an obscure artist to drum up publicity. I was firewalled from the link. Is this guy someone I should know?

3. Is this LBN?
This is a press release from the guy who made the song, trying to drum up interest in said song by making up a story about it being banned.

The fact that he's calling his own song " one of the most dramatic anti-war songs ever written" is pretty laughable.

6. According to Mick Star...
...Mick Star says Mick Star is a "a recluse rock poet."

Clue for you, Mick: Recluses don't issue press releases.

20. I have no issue with the song.
I have an issue with him putting out this press release and talking about himself in the third person.

7. Ah, the legendary C-120 Packplane
C-120 Packplane
The role of transport aircraft in the combat mission cannot be undervalued. These aircraft transported personnel, equipment, spare parts and other supplies to keep fighters and bombers flying. In late 1950, eight different transport aircraft were undergoing testing at Wright Air Development Center . These included the Fairchild XC-120 Packplane with a detachable cargo compartment. The Fairchild XC-120 Packplane, a converted C-119B, had a removable cargo compartment. Only one was ever built.

24. I assume it's a typo for C-130. But that is a turboprop, not a jet. I
guess "turbro props" isn't as catchy as "jets" for a song title.

10. Why is everyone so automatically negative to this guy?
You know that there is de facto censorship on almost all of the radio stations and on MTV - MTV and Clear Channel will not air any songs with the word "war" in them. We know that this WH is in the business of suppressing dissent and punishing enemies. Why the nastiness toward this Star guy? The song is not bad; it isn't top forty type stuff, but then I generally loath top forty type stuff. I am not saying that everyone should like the song, but I do wonder why there is so much animosity toward this guy...

12. Knee-jerk reaction to musicians who issue press releases
As a former working-stiff musician, I just naturally gravitate towards making fun on them. But you're right, we should give it a listen first.

15. "5 Minutes"
In the 1980s, Jerry Harrison did a thing as "Bonzo Goes to Washington" that was all over college radio.

16. Because he's a shithead.
Edited on Mon Oct-03-05 08:45 AM by yibbehobba
First of all, nobody's ever even heard of him. I found one link on Google that was related to him or his music. (Edit - sniffa set me straight on this. There's more than one link and I suck at google.) I highly doubt that the lack of radio play for his song is the result of a Bush administration policy and is entirely a result of the fact that there's only one link on Google that has anything to do with him.

Furthermore, he's a self-promoter. He wrote that little press release in which he praises himself and his music very highly and talks about himself in the third person, as if someone else had written the release.

And finally, he is attempting to use peoples' hatred of the Bush administration to push his little song and hopefully get himself more than one link on the whole of the internet. Unfortunately, he's making shit up in order to do that, and that makes him a shithead.

25. I don't care about Clear Channel or MTV, but I think the guy is nuts
if he thinks he's not getting on college radio because of some gov't conspiracy. I hear all kinds of anti-war stuff on college radio, from Green Day to the most obscure Chapel Hill 4 guys with spare time punkers. That aside, I'm negative because I think he's using an anti-war message to jump-start a cheap publicity stunt.
