As a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Senator Kerry will be one of the first people to grill Harriet Miers. This is what I just sent him:
Dear Senator Kerry:
Based on your experiences with BCCI and busting Massachusetts mobsters, this one's right up your alley.
In 2000, Newsweek magazine reported that in 1998, George W. Bush's gubernatorial reelection campaign paid a "hard-nosed Dallas lawyer" $19,000 to "review" then-Governor Bush's Texas Air National Guard record because of allegations that, to be blunt, his daddy pulled strings to get him into a unit with a two-year waiting list and that, once he was in it, he was a bad soldier.
The hard-nosed Dallas lawyer was Harriet Miers, who later became White House counsel and has been tapped to become an associate justice on the Supreme Court.
Senator, even if Harriet Miers' involvement with Bush's TANG records is strictly on the up-and-up, we're still talking about an attorney who specialized in corporate law while in private practice and who has never been a judge. Even George Bush can do better than that.
Please filibuster this woman.
