Miers makes sense if you consider that pretty soon
some major league indictments/convictions could be coming down the pike. Some stuff about the jurisdiction of certain state (cough - Texas) courts over certain federal election issues, or maybe the immunity of the executive branch from prosecution over matters of intelligence personel. Stuff that could well make its way to the Supreme Court in the not distant future. Stuff you'd want your ace homegirl to have a say in.

Know what I'm sayin'?

1. She'd have to recuse on that stuff.
Although Scalia didn't, the incompetent, treasonous pig.

2. there's no "have to recuse" on the supreme court.
there's "sure as hell OUGHT to recuse", but no "have to recuse".

basically, each justice decides for themselves when to recuse and they answer to no one, short of impeachment by congress. however, impeachment of federal judges is rare enough, and unheard of for supremos.

16. according to this link, samuel p. chase was impeached (1804) but acquitted
he is the only supremo ever to be impeached.

6. Gee! I guess that he IS like FDR after all!

FDR got 'No' on that stunt by his own party. Will the Republicans be as strong to do the same?

7. Why would she "have to" recuse herself?
As you pointed out, Fat Tony didn't recuse himself, and I'm not sure that there's a procedure to affidavit a Supreme Court Justice off of a case if that Justice doesn't want to recuse himself or herself voluntarily.

9. Actually, the appointment smacks of panic....
pResident Fucko rushed it out at 8 am to try and head off news about possible indictments...and it seems like he just grabbed the nearest stooge he could find.

who undoubtedly will stick up for him when charges are brought against him.

18. My theory is that Bush just doesn't care as much as he used to...
about the politics... he doesn't have to run again, and he's just making choices he personally feels comfortable with. I have a notion that he feels he has done about all he can get away with, already greatly enriching his friends beyond the dreams of avarice, so he can relax now. He probably now has a "fuck 'em all" attitude.
