Without any link or accreditation and a complete absence of details it appears nothing more than a vanity post, causing those posts of value to be pushed off the marque. Please excuse my bitchiness but this sort of thing has reduced the value of DU enormously and the problem seems to be growing. If you must post, please include the rest of us in your overwhelming joy.

Too many threads consisting of nothing more than an exclamatory subject header are RUINING this forum. I only wish the mods would do something about this, because you're so right -- the problem *is* growing.

Your post is a much more polite and articulate (albeit probably futile) comment on the all too frequent mystery posts than I've seen in a long, loong time.

I've gotten to the point that I generally just mutter a couple expletives and move on.

More and more threads seem to be nothing more than a running commentary on whatever other media the poster is absorbing at the moment, with the assumption that everyone else is following the same thing.

I try to ignore these threads -- but it's often difficult to tell from the title.

Please, if it's worth starting a thread, it must be worth including enough information to convey some meaning to others.

I have seen so many important posts pushed off the front page by subjects like "OMFG!!! JANEAN GAROFALO JUST SAID BUSH IS AN ILLEGITIMATE PRESIDENT!!"

Likewise, when there is a big story, two or three posts on the same subject just pushes other posts off the front page. It would be nice if people would check to see if there is already something already posted on that subject, and consider joining in that thread.

I relish the substantive and informative - - and the hilariously funny - - threads on DU, and I sometimes wonder if the vanity posts aren't put there intentionally to make us seem less releveant and to push more meaningful posts off the front pages.

If your argument was not weak I may agree. However, Your claim about pushing posts of value off the marque is rediculous. For one I think a greatest section was created to help keep the posts of higher quality separated from my post which you consider a vanity post. Second, posts are avaible and are just not erased. So do a little research. You are correct I most certainly should have mentioned more detail but for you to act like the quality of the board has decreased is rediculous.

Threads such as yours push other substantive posts off the board before some folks even have the chance to read them. Threads only go to "The Greatest" list after they receive the required number of votes from DUers who read and nominate them.

Those who are sick and tired of mystery subject header threads (usually accompanied by an overabundance of capital letters and exclamation points, but nothing in the actual message) are not being ridiculous. They're just sick and tired of the plethora of such threads on the GD forum and weary that the Mods have not addressed an issue which many of us have been complaining about for a while now. Certainly, yours is just one among too many threads of this type and I guess some of us have just reached the breaking point and decided to speak up.
