What does Bush & Co. want to distract from now?
When Roberts was put out there, it was to distract from the Rove/Plame connections. It, combined with other events, worked really well.

It seems to me that this latest nomination wasn't intended to smack in the face of the dems as much as it was the GOP base. Why?

My gut reaction: the deficits & spending
