I'm thinking of switching to Republican ...
then I can vote in the primaries and pick who I think would be the easiest to defeat. I could also list myself as a Repub that voted Democrat.

Seems more worthwhile to vote against the Republicans rather than vote for one Democrat or the other.

1. And you could break any law you want willy-nilly
and if you got caught you'd get a job w/the Administration! :bounce:

10. If you get a job with a Republican Administration on that basis
make sure you have a hidden tape recorder and miniature video camera on you at all times. Over the years, you should be able to collect some interesting stuff.

2. I have a relative who registered Repub
for that very reason. Makes sense, but can you live with that on your conscience?

13. You go to the polling place, switch from un-enrolled to republican,
vote, then switch back to un-enrolled. No crap in the mail from the GOP or anything.

23. Does it really work that way?
Seems too easy. But then again, nothing really matters when your vote doesn't get counted anyway.

24. I LOVE getting crap in the mail from the GOP.
I always send something back to them in their pre-paid envelope. Doonesbury cartoon, Molly Ivins editorial, a heartfelt personal note, etc. :D

3. In Texas, you dont' have to proclaim your party affiliation. You simply
go vote in the primary of your choice. Of course, you can't vote in a run-off unless you voted int he primary.

The bad thing about this is that your name gets affilitated with GOP and you get calls for GOP people, looking for money, etc.

17. But if the grand old pukes call then
they're just wasting their time right? And maybe if there is a god or goddess, while they're messing around calling a Democrat in disquise, the money bags they meant to call just stepped out of the house. And got hit by a 500 pound pelican. And when he woke up he forgot he was a repuke. So the grand old pukes just lost. Big time. How does that sound?

best

19. Very excellent, thank you! Yeah, I've done it a few times and
enjoyed telling some ugly old GOP hag that I'm a generous, fiscally conservative pro-choice voter, and they won't be seeing a dime out of me as long as they promote their bigoted, warmongering, support-the-rich platforms.

4. Sometimes it's not easy to gauge who's the easiest to defeat
You may think someone is so looney there's no way he'd be elected. However, looniness, so long as it is to the right, is not a drawback, to the Repubs.

I recall that in the 2000 primaries, my wife & I were rooting heavily for the dim-son to beat McCain for the reason you mention...

First of all, I've never seen a study that shows this is an effective strategy. Second, it's none of our business who the Republicans nominate.

It's more effective to focus your efforts on your own party than attempting to change the opponents.

7. lol
I guess it's not a bad strategy under the circumstances, maybe. If the Dems are all spineless mediocrities who can't fight their way out of the proverbial paper bag, maybe the only way we can put Democrats back in power nationally is to register Republican, and "help" them nominate the most hopeless, hapless wacko-right-wingers with no personality and no hair. Then our Dems might stand a fighting chance!

8. I did that for a long time...
it made me feel too nasty after while. Plus I used to get the ridiculous literature in the mail and fundraising calls. I switched back right after the Democratic Convention. I swear I ran out of that courthouse with absolute glee.

9. As a Homosexual republican congressman told Josh Lyman
on West Wing, the NRA has two million members. If three million liberals joined the organization and called for an immediate vote (on whatever) what a cacophony! Hard to argue with your logic. However, I am a registered democrat and can't assist you in your worthwhile endeavor. Go kick some ass Kablooie!

18. In Wisconsin we have "open" primaries. You just have to stay on one side
of the ticket, once you cast your first vote. You don't have to declare a party--YEAH. I know we're just one small state, but anytime there's nothing big going on, on the Democratic side, I wander over to the other side and cast a few votes just to shake things up. I posted this "technique" awhile ago here and was roundly criticized for betraying Democrats. Hmmm--go figure. I thought i was making their life easier by getting them a less qualified opponent. Anyway, until someone makes this illegal, I'll probably keep doing it because I don't have a lot of power otherwise and I feel like this is my one act of conscience/rebellion.

Freeps are trying to do the Sierra club this way. Sadly our system doesn't tolerate third parties very well.
